Is it time to put Star Trek to rest?

I bothered to check and I see that she did appear in Prodigy and, briefly, in Nemesis.) Still, not enough!

Seven and Janeway had a lot of story after - I think Seven got more post finale screentime than the majority of the TNG crew. Janeway in season 1 and 2 of prodigy (and the cameo in nemesis). The Doctor was on Prodigy season 2 and SFA.

Other characters have had brief cameos, Paris in lower decks, Tuvok in Picard (and a LDS refernece)

DS9 crew appeared in one LDS episode, and Rom/Leeta in another, and there was a recent relevant SFA episode (no more spoilers there)

It wasn’t until season 3 of Picard that we saw Worf, Crusher and La Forge.

Seven however was in 2.5 seasons of Picard, more than Geordi, Worf and Crusher put together.

As for SFA, I was warned that it was horrible but I didn't think that it would be as horrible as it obviously is. What I have seen, It's not Star Trek, it's a freakshow and a parody of Star Trek.

It actually looks like some alternate universe story in which humanity continued its downward spiral since the 2010s and this is what we got some hundred yeras later.

The characters of Married With Children actually looks like normal people compared to the characters in SFA and Married With Children was actually funny, SFA isn't.

Starfleet Academy is and should be what we saw in episodes like The First Duty.

I was very apprehensive about SFA and it certainly has had its ups and downs in the first six episodes but it’s actually pretty damned good. Parody is the last word I would use to describe it.

The doom-and-gloom series mostly has "bad lightning".

Compare those pictures, the upper one from TNG, the lower one from PIC.

I think the TNG lighting was a little too much if you ask me. It feels way over lit. I actually don’t mind the lighting in the scene from Picard you decided to show. Season 3’s lighting on the other hand? Yuck.

Honestly, I try to adapt new things. But the recent ten years have been horrible when it comes to entertainment.
There hasn't been a great, popular new rock band for decades now. Guns n Roses were probably the last worldwide popular rock band.
The Warning looks promising... 😁 ...great band and I remember when they were just a YouTube video... 😂

Have been some good TV shows the last ten years the problem is they are just all mini series now. So 10 episode seasons. Maybe 60 episodes tops. So they disappear from the cultural consciousness pretty quickly now.

Ai should be the final nail in the coffin for live Entertainment and hands on creativity.

Why do you think it would be any different to the trek that you dislike?

How would it different from a new sci fi series

The late 80s and 90s were an optimistic time for humanity - the Cold War was ending, it was pre 9/11 and the pivot America did, and sci fi tv reflected that optimistic future - TNG moreso than the rest. A humanity which put the needs of the many ahead of the needs of the few

People aren’t like that. I’d like to blame it on social media and doom scrolling but the change set in way before then, arguably when America lost the war before firing a single shot.
How would it be different?? I just said it in my post. There would be a totally open field. Can do whatever you want. They can write a new show Bible. Create a new Trek franchise with the basics but everything else they can do what they like. No worries story about past shows or tech.

Also keep it to a movie franchise only. So burnout doesn't happen as fast.

DS9 also had "TRIALS AND TRIBBLE-ATIONS", "OUR MAN BASHIR", "HIS WAY", "BADDA-BING, BADDA-BANG", "LITTLE GREEN MEN", "THE MAGNIFICENT FERENGI", and a whole bunch of other fun, light episodes.

DS9 absolutely had dark episodes. But DS9 also had a lot of light ones.

DEEP SPACE NINE was not dark. It was balanced.
If TOS was sold as 'Wagon Train in Space' to the NBC suits, then DS9 is 'Gunsmoke in Space'. Avery is James Arness, Rene is Festus...

Wasn’t that the whole point of the Abrams films? Start with a fresh slate and do something different without being beholden to canon? By the second movie they went right back to Khan, and by the third film it was all over. Then five TV shows after it harked back to past stuff in one way, shape or form. These guys don’t inspire me with much confidence that they are able to consistently do ‘something new.’

But they can do that now. Either with a new series with Captain Smirk, or continuing Star Trek

Howver what writers and producers want is modern trek - the short seasons, the lighting, the “edgy” stories

The problems you seem to have don’t seem to be with the weight of history or with the setting, it seems to be with modern tv. This seems a fairly common theme too.

It’s to do with modern “television” production. Reboots won’t fix that.

They Abrams films...?? Kinda. But they had to go and frickin tether it to the prime universe and even have TOS Spock in there. What I'm talking about is no ties at all to the original show and the rest of it. Just its own thing set on the premise of Starfleet and Starships federation and earth. Keep those elements and then do whatever you want with it.

But that was only to establish the fact that Spock and Nero created this alternate universe.

I know what you’re talking about. And honestly at this point I would like that as well, since the ‘prime universe’ or whatever buzzword they’d like to call it has been massively played out. The problem is that even if they made a total reboot, how would their new universe be different enough from what came before that it would make any difference to the audience? I mean DSC, SNW, SFA…they all might as well be reboots. How would something new be any different?

This. Create its own rules and be consistent because that's what fans care more about than anything character related.

Who said it won't be character driven? That is what the problem is right now. They focus more on spectacle and silliness over good juicy character moments. We did finally get some character stuff last episode of SFA. With Nus and Nahla. Even though some of the back and forth was weird.

Well all new characters. They could Reboot the premise but not with the same characters.
