How the Gorn would have looked in Star Trek!

The Salt Vampire looks great, the Gorn - if it indeed is supposed to be a Gorn- looks like shit. The design of the ENT Gorn is far superior, even though it looked quite ugly being obviously TV budget CG.

Salt Vampire does look cool, the Gorn is not too bad either although it does need a snout.

The point of putting Gorn-like and Salt Vampire-like aliens into ST 2009 is so that fans can say, "Hey, I think I just saw...!" It's not as if anyone in the movie will make a point of presenting the Gorn and stating that it is a Gorn.

ST IV, V and VI did the same with various iconic aliens.

Be advised that if JJ becomes really annoyed with all the fan bitching he might just decide to intentionally piss on you and produce a Gorn that looks like this

And make a billion dollars doing it.:klingon:

The last thing he was bitching about was the red ball that made up the Red Matter as being a staple of Abrams' films. As if anyone cared about that.

Says the person who demonstrated his lack of interest in the subject by posting in that said thread multiple times and contributing nothing.

He's the type of person who'll use any insignificant factoid to base his complains on about a movie that doesn't fit his personal view of ST
So I'm guilty of having my own personal view of ST? I wasn't aware that was something that should be discriminated against. And really Dukhat, this a forum. People complain all the time. I'd much rather hang out with folks like that than people like you who just want to diss users directly.

And what are you talking about insignificant? If you're going to go for a creature that looks like a Gorn and you flat out say it was "inspired by the Gorn", why not just call it a Gorn? Especially if it takes place in, you know, Star Trek. It's like making a creature in Star Wars that has a striking resemblance to a wookie, but you say it's not because it was only 'inspired' by a wookie. What's the point? Sometimes a cigar SHOULD just be a cigar.

An ewok.

An Ewok has striking resemblance to a Wookiee?

Hm, yes, indeed, about as much resemblance as the Abramsgorn has to a TOS-Gorn. And since an Ewok is not a Wookiee, the Abramsgorn is not a Gorn. :p

I'm pretty sure the Gorn mask is incomplete. After all, in the corners of its eyes, you can see gaps underneath the mask. I'm guessing those gaps were supposed to be filled someway (lens, CGI, more layers, whatever).

Re: Dumb and Bizarre Trek Novel Moments...

I prefered the Salt Vampire's new look myself.

Hmm...I wonder (in an ultra nerdy way) if that's the same Salt Vampire from TOS? Wasn't it meant to be the last of it's people? Maybe it escaped from Rura Penthe before finding Roger Korby, and endured all sorts of hell before getting killed by the TOS crew. Cue "The Salt Vampire Chronicles" comic series...

The Gorn looks great too.

That's what they did with Keenser, so probably.

Trelayne had a stuffed one in his castle on Gothos!

Is it me or does this salt vampire look a little more well feed then the one from The Man trap? I wonder if the Klingons are missing a rather larger number of prisoners?
