For All Mankind Trailer - Apple TV- SPOILER

Great opening episode.

I'm so damn happy that the show continues to focus on the uneasy state of Mars and an uprising is on its way. I know it's a common theme within sci-fi movies, television shows, books, comics, etc. but I will never tire of seeing Mars struggle to break free from Earth oppression. Of course, it's going to be the newest generation that will lead the charge but I will be curious to see who else will join them (aside from, obviously, Ed). I got my money on Celia Boyd.

I naturally gravitated towards Lily Dale but I think that's more because I'm a big fan of Ruby Cruz thanks to Willow and Mare of Easttown. I hope she gets more nuance than aspiring journalist and the daughter of a famous rabble-rouser but I trust the show to develop her character well.

I'm not surprised Alex feels "homesick" for Earth nor is he willing to admit that to either Kelly or Ed. I will be curious to see his role in the uprising and hopefully it won't be the obvious reluctant participant who is only motivated by his relationship with Lily.

Even though my focus is on all things Mars, I still love how the show continues to explore the relationship between Margo and Aleida, who are largely removed from the Mars situation. Considering Dev has yet another pipe dream that's going to cause all kinds of problems, I wonder if somehow at least Aleida is pulled from Earth and becomes more directly involved on Mars. As great as it is to see Margo in this season, I can't imagine what her role can be within prison aside from helping Aleida solve some great problem, even if it comes at the risk of Aleida sharing sensitive information to Margo (that would be one hell of a full circle).

I'm still sad Dani is no longer part of the show. The show's biggest loss of a character since Molly. Fingers crossed for a surprise guest appearance later on in the season.

The biggest highlight from the opening news cycle for me were the Red Sox failing to bring the Curse of the Bambino, the Expos moving to Portland (who knows, we might finally get a Portland team soon), John Lennon and Jay-Z collaborating together, and, of course Ellen's memoir. I'm sure there were other interesting tidbits but those were the ones that stood out to me.

Also...there's now a non-zero chance Ed will, somehow, continue to stubbornly live by the show's end.
Well, perhaps not considering his cancer diagnosis. But if anyone could beat cancer by sheer stubbornness, it's Ed.

Instead of a serial killer, it's probably some sort of political conspiracy now.

Good thing they have the two cops who solved Rosie Larsen's murder.

So either the movie Talladega Nights was still made, or Will Ferrell became a NASCAR driver. They used a clip from that movie during the opening montage.

Hurricane Katrina wasn’t as devastating. Literal example of the butterfly effect lol.

Michael Jordan stayed involved with baseball it seems. The Montreal Expos went to Portland instead of DC

A few of the montages have noted that global warming isn't as severe because of an increased focus on nuclear power and electric vehicles.

On Tech Watch, the ATL still seems to be lagging a bit behind reality in terms of information technology. Their proto-iPhones (or next-generation Newtons) are thicker than any real model, with an iPod-style case. They still don't seem to have a world wide web, which makes me wonder how Flashmobs were a thing. Maybe they skipped over the distributed, decentralized web but still ended up with some kind of social media service? That'd be a shame, losing the cool era of the internet but still getting the enshittified era.

i would call it the for all mankind infamous the alternate earth time jump montage intro

since for all mankind is focused on mars again

it does have you wonder what the moon is like now in season 5 like are there countries and cities on the moon

and i think margo and aldia mentioned some of the things that happened in the past seasons

Did they ever so slightly change the theme music for this new episode (First Light)? Something about it seemed slightly different, but maybe it's just my hearing.

I was a little confused about Ed seeming to be under arrest/probation or something and them saying Sam Massey was still in a federal prison when I thought I saw a headline in the 'catch-up intro' saying Gore had pardoned the Goldilocks people, but then I went back and froze it and it said "SOME of the Mars rioters were pardoned" so I guess they were exceptions.

I think the pardon was for the riot on the ground that happened at the same time as the theft, not anyone directly involved in commandeering the asteroid.

Think there’s a news mention of a Blockbuster opening on the Moon, so seems likely there’s a Happy Valley-style city there by now. In which case, it’d be interesting to see how the Loonies feel about what’s going on on Mars.

lol blockbuster in the 2010s era
It's an alternate era. Anything is possible.

I think the thing I look forward to most for a new season is the montage of events catching us up on the FAM preasent. It's interesting seeing the changes in this timeline compared to ours. Also, is Alex going to be the new annoying kid of the season? I hope not but it's not looking great at the moment.

Good first episode. I think it will take me a bit to remember what happened in the last season. Nice to see Aleida and Margo still talking to each other.

His being tried in absentia and being unable to travel to earth is probably also a factor I.e they couldn’t toss him in prison but tne M6 might have imposed some restrictions on him as a token gesture.
