The Perfect Mate deleted scene

Despite owning the Blu-rays since release, I'm only just starting to watch the extras. And the one that has shocked me most is one cut from The Perfect Mate.

It's a pretty questionable episode anyway. But for those that haven't seen the deleted scene it uses the 'it's all in their imagination' trope and Picard rushes up to Kamala's intended mate and says she must remain on the Enterprise, and the trade deal was the main thing and the Chancellor agrees. Then surprise it's just in his head!

I have always hated this plot device in any TV show, it's a way of tricking the audience then going "gotcha". I've seen it a lot with someone dying. Someone will argue it's a way of conveying their true feelings, but you can do that through good writing. And it's the "gotcha!" I don't care for.

TNG ended up cutting it, so it's a moot point. But I'm almost angry they even considered it! It would have been an awful inclusion.

Anyone else seen it and have thoughts?
