DS9 on blu ray?

Yeah, the DS9 Blu-ray project is a well kept secret.

especially from all the folks who were involved in the TNG project.

I was not saying that the DS9 project is being kept a secret, but that if it were to happen leaks would not be expected, as Mage implied.

True, Hollywood certainly revolves around non-disclosure, especially with projects which are still being developed.

However - as I've done numerous times now - I'm publicly stating that CBS have no plans to do DS9 or Voyager at this time. Furthermore (and this is from multiple sources), it doesn't look like they'll be coming any time soon.

Agreed, I wasn't trying to argue otherwise.

I'm enjoying the death throes of this thread:

Optimists: "It might happen!!"

Realists: "But it's not happening now!"

Optimists: "It might happen one day!!!"

Realists: "But not any time soon"

Optimists:"NO! But maybe in the future technology will make the process easier and more importantly, cheaper!"

Realists: "Perhaps, but not altogether likely considering the source material"

Optimists: "It could happen!!!"

Realists: "But it's not happening at the moment.."

Optimists:"no..but it could soon!!!"

Repeat ad infinitum....;)

It's like listening to a child argue with a vulcan :p

Sooo, in light of further news, do we need this thread any more?
Can't only speak for myself but every time I see it pop up on the "new posts" search, I think "Oh good! Maybe there's been some new development....ahhh no, just 3 more pages of aspect ratio talk...whoopee!"

Don't know if the mods agree....

I hope not - if we closed every pointless thread around here, we would all have to start doing work at work instead of posting on here.

Well, I preordered the Nordic TNG season 7 for £31 from Amazon last night knowing that it would likely be my final Trek media expenditure. . .ever. Kinda makes me sad, but brings a sense of finality to the whole thing. :(

TOS Blu-ray boxset - check

TNG Blu-ray 1-7 - check

Star Trek Movies Bluray 1-10 boxset - check

Star Trek (JJ) Blu-ray - check

^ Indeed, it's bittersweet. I'm expecting S7 to land on my desk any day now and I have very mixed feelings. Excitement, sure - but also sadness that it's likely going to be the last set (at least for a long time)

To quote the great Jimmy D. . .Up yer shaft!

That seems odd, and like a more expensive way to operate. Do you have some examples of this?
Nope, it was mentioned up-thread by someone else, if they are still lurking maybe they can chip in?

It sounds to me like someone misunderstood the phrase "CGI set extention".

Looks to me like someone can't spell "extension"! :p

But, your hilarious sarcasm aside, my basic point was that even early in DS9 there was a lot more digital trickery employed that makes even the early seasons more difficult to do than TNG, before you even get to Odo.

Add that to the lower expected sales revenue, and lower projected future revenues from streaming that you would have to assume, and it isn't surprising they currently aren't planning to do it.

But we have been through this fifty times already in this thread, maybe we should all stop talking until there is some more news.

Sadly not surprising. DS9, as much as we love it, was just never popular enough to justify the enormous costs of remastering it.

And if there was ever a chance it would be done, it would probably be immediately after they finished up TNG, and while they still had the people and entire operation up and running smoothly.

Shut the hell up with this common sense thinking.

It's possible.

I have to agree with this more than anything else on the thread.

Why is everyone assuming that if we don't get DS9-R right the fuck now that it will never happen? I say, let's be patient. Anything's possible.

To be fair, no-one is assuming anything.

People are stating quite logically that it would be much easier to do it now while the team who did TNG are still warming chairs. At this point, they are basically extending a current project. In the future, they would be starting a whole new one.

Here is an interesting question, was the original film for DS9 and VGR stored as diligently as that for TNG? Is it all still kicking around in a salt mine?
