There's no way to know if this would help you, but some months back my Sony remote stopped working properly. The player would sometimes perform functions that were not the ones I pushed.
I opened up the remote and cleaned the (admittedly minimal) crud out of it, wiped down the board under the rubber buttons, just generally cleaned it all up. Works properly again now.
