News Discovery Production Resumes In July

it's also entirely possible they'll have the georgiou show ready to air after season 3 ends, so there will be three seasons in quick succession to fill out that slate.

Agreed.

I also predict that we’ll be getting more Short Treks, in addition to the 2 animated ones already announced, in between Discovery season 2 and Picard season 1. Once Discovery production starts up again we’ll get a few I think. I don’t think we’re going to get any Picard show short treks until after season 1 of that show airs

Picard's supposed to be late-2019 and 10 episodes.

So I'm guessing: October to Mid-December 2019 is Picard Season 1. Followed by a month break. Then Disco Season 3 in Mid-January 2020.

Just my guess. That would mean PIC S1 would starting airing six months after it starts shooting (this April), and it would be the same deal for DSC S3.

yeah, a caveat to my earlier post about the successive seasons is that picard shooting this spring might be cutting it close for a fall release. it could foreseeably be pushed back to late 2019 or, even more likely, early 2020.

I think we are going to get Picard, then a few Short Treks, then Discovery S3. There could be some Short Treks before Picard too.

Short Treks so far have been Discovery spin-offs (even have Bryan Fuller listed as co-creator). I wonder if they would do some Picard Short Treks too.

It'd be interesting to see how they'd handle Picard Short Treks without showing Picard himself, assuming they hold off his (re-)introduction until the Series Premiere. Hopefully they'd use them to bring us up to speed about what's been happening in the 24th Century since we last saw.

The second season started filing in April, so if everything remains the same, we'll see it March 2020?

I'm assuming Stewart won't be the only actor in this series. The Short Treks would be a nice way to introduce the other cast members of that show

This is what I'm thinking

Picard - December 2019 - February 2020
Short Treks - March-April 2020
Discovery S3 - May-July/August 2020

Yeah, you’re spot on in your estimate. Unless VFX are more expansive next season and they need more time...

Q2

I want my year-round Star Trek. If it's good, lots of people will say it's bad. If it's bad, lots of people will say it's good. I'll be the judge of quality, and with half a dozen new shows planned and as many showrunners, they can't all be the worst thing ever.

Honestly the Short Treks would be a great way to check back in with particular characters from TNG/DS9/VOY who aren't really planned to be part of the Picard show.

I think a good starting point would be to show Romulus' Destruction, the aftermath of it, and then branch out from there. Whoever it makes the most sense to see out of that, or whoever makes the most sense for someone new to contact from TNG/DS9/VOY would be a good way to transition back into everything.
