It was the most Trekkish thing ever. Alien altered by dilithium exposure causes dilithium to go inert through a psychic wave that travels through sub space, triggered by emotional loss.I remember being underwhelmed once we found out what caused "The Burn".

Seriously, when one looks more closely at the "science" from the Berman Era the complainers like to point at as evidence of Star Trek being hard sci-fi, it becomes glaringly obvious that they're just lulled by the siren's song of technobabble. It's still junk, but as long as the explanation sounds science-y enough, it's good. Even if it's just a meaningless string of technical words that almost look like they were run through a thesaurus. It was the most Trekkish thing ever. You won't find many harder core fans of DSC on this board than me... but I agree with you. Making Tilly the First Officer was dumb. Luckily, they undo that by the end of the season. That was the season they made Ensign Tilly the First Officer.. lol
Yeah, I was done with Discovery after that. We were in nonsensical territory at that point, and if I couldn't buy into the characters and their motivations, there was no use in watching further. "Power of emotions" aside.
Matalas and his fanwank and remaking the franchise's greatest hits only connects with RMB and his ilk, who do not represent the fandom. They are building up Matalas whose ideas seem to connect better with the fans.
Sir, this is a Wendy's.This is such a relief. I hated Disco since S1. I could never identify with all the tearful characters, who were never able to set a proper example for the Trek universe.
When the producers realized, that the storylines didnt add up with the prime universe, they made the bold move to reset the show in the 31st century. The show eventually became even worse which was mainly Kurzman related. Disco is the epitome of Kurzman Trek and it failed with his ideas. Disco didn’t only antagonize many HC Trek fans, the show was widely considered to be an artistic failure.
There’s a good chance, that the decision to cancel Disco was also the final coffin nail for Kurzmans Trek legacy. They are building up Matalas whose ideas seem to connect better with the fans. I hope they give him a real chance to fix everything Trek related, Kurzman managed to mess up within the last few years…
I don’t have issues with the depiction of modern relationships. Disco however constantly tried to force the Uber-woke narrative onto its audience combined with a very angry „in your face“ attitude. Trek fans will not forget, Trek fans will not forgive…

Taking the glass half-full approach, I like to think it shows Saru's judgment isn't always the best even though he has good intentions. That's really why Burnham is ultimately the Captain in S4 and S5, not him. There's no other way to say it than to say it, Saru is too soft to be a Captain.
Yup. I'll take that over secret children. It was the most Trekkish thing ever. Alien altered by dilithium exposure causes dilithium to go inert through a psychic wave that travels through sub space, triggered by emotional loss.
Yup, but also that she had other possibilities than just a command officer.I'd say that this was a sign that she wasn't going to work out,
It's like Colonel Tigh said on BSG. The 2000s one. "If they like the XO, he's not doing his job." And everyone loved Tilly.Making Tilly the first XO didn't break me so much as having the bridge crew reassure her when she was insecure about it "no way girl, this is for you" and a group hug.
The XO is supposed to be a hardass - the person that disciplines the crew so that the Captain can stay a bit above the fray and have universal respect. That was 100% the wrong foot to get off on if you want to be a manager.
I'd say that this was a sign that she wasn't going to work out, but I think it's more that the writers room doesn't understand how ranks work (just looking at it like any old promotion) - not getting that command involves some distance.
