Discovery ending with Season 5

I’m very sad about this news but here’s hoping season 5 is an excellent ending. Maybe some of the characters will continue in a spin-off.

Also, we have an indication that season 5 will premiere in early 2024. So I guess it will be SNW, LD, PRO, then DSC following Picard.

I didn't expect this. I am more sad about Picard ending than this but I was hoping for a longer run for Discovery. I think Discovery had a great run. Hopefully season 5 will the best one yet. And we still have SNW.

I suppose the studio made this decision based on comparisons with Picard numbers and they want more stories set there.

Hopefully the 31st century will be back in some way or another.

If they are replacing it then potentially fine. But there's nothing else out there.

It's amazing any of this exists at all. If nothing else the show proved out the streaming future for Trek.

I can believe it'll be the sole show - there will have to be some more announced.

Not surprised; it seems a very expensive show but has a rather low profile. I've enjoyed it for the most part, and hope they go out with a strong last season.

I don't know if my math adds up here, but, I'm assuming Strange New Worlds season 2 will start after Picard concludes in April. Then Lower Decks season 4 would start after Strange New Worlds. If Discovery starts after THAT, with each season consisting of 10 episodes -- does that takes us into 2024?

Bummer but 5 seasons is a hell of a run for any show and especially a streaming one. 65 episodes. Looking forward to the end while dreading it at the same time because it’s ending. Also dreading the hateful YouTubers who will no doubt crow about their “victory”.

Yup—-I heard this news a few weeks ago and they are reworking the ending and having to do reshoots…..they were hoping to do it soon after the cruise but will take longer now……hence the 2024 date now. This had also been the reason the release lineup had not been announced yet…..I look for that to be announced now soon.

Well, that's a shame. The show was uneven, but I thought it really found its stride once it hit the 32nd century. Here's hoping at least some of the cast carries over to what comes next - I can't see SH just ditching the far-future-Federation setting.

It shows how much the tv landscape has changed that after 65 episodes of Discovery the vibe we're being given is that it naturally ran its course, whereas after 98 episodes of Enterprise it was treated as an early cancelation despite the PR from the studio at the time.
