DC Comics - Ongoing Discussion - SPOILERS

I thought Action Comics #41 was pretty good. Its not the version of Superman I prefer or really want to read about, but as a story it kept my attention and made me curious to see what comes next. So, I'll probably keep reading it, at least until it stops holding my attention.

I have mixed feelings about Green Lantern #41. I haven't liked any of the GL books since Johns left them, and Hal Jordan felt totally out of character this issue. But, the actual story was ok, and it kepot my attention enough to justify one or two more issues to see if it can do anything enough to keep me hooked on reading it.

I snorted like a camel reading the new Suicide Squad.

"Your back up is going to include Harley Quinn, The Reverse Flash and Parasite."

"Who the #### is Parasite?"

"You've seen him around. He's the guy who looks like what would happen if Grimace had sex with a nightmare."

"Who the #### is Grimace?"

Just saw the new Batman-sans armor suit costume. When the heck did they de-age Jim Gordon and give him an olympic athlete's body?

Well it's always been dodgy that retirement hasn't been forced on Jim if he's in his mid 60s.

Is Bruce still forever 35, or have they made him younger too?

In today's comic Gordon says he's 46 and he gives up smoking.

It's an interesting arc, assuming it doesn't last long. I do love how they're hanging a lantern on it being a stupid idea

I was just going to say that Jim is probably in his late 40's or early 50's. "Detective Comics" seems to be the back story for what is going on in "Batman" and "Batman/Superman" right now. Everything has a OYL feel to it. I think DiDio mentioned that is what they would be doing with the books when they came back from the move break.

I liked Starfire. She's sweet and innocent, well past ignorant, just arrived on Earth, and being showed the ropes by a non nonsense sheriff in a small town (who happens to be a woman.). There's some cultural misunderstandings, and some other sorts of misunderstandings.

Korriand'r reminds me of Data from TNG, that time he got amnesia.

An internal monologue from a recent issue puts him at either 31 or 32; I don't recall which.

I read both Batman and Batman/Superman last night. I can't say I cared much for the new direction of Batman, but I'll give it a chance since Snyder hasn't let me down yet. I like what they are doing with Superman but I can't wait to get filled in on how we got here because right now I don't have a lot of love for Lois Lane. I'm not sure how Clark is even talking to her after that kind of betrayal.

With this new universe DC has really gone back to the old Bronze Age/Seventies version of Lois Lane. When it first started she seemed to care about Clark as a friend but primarily she was driven by her ambition.

I enjoyed Batman/Superman as well, and I have to agree that I am surprised Clark can even talk to Lois at this point. But like you said, there's still much we need to be filled in on--which I cannot wait to read.

I too really enjoyed "Batman/Superman" and "Action Comics". They seem to be telling the arc in a non linear fashion which makes sense since it is being set in this OYL-esque time period. I also really enjoyed "Detective Comics". We're getting the gaps filled in in-between books which is something refreshing here I think.

Enjoying Jim Gordon Batman more than I thought I would and can't wait to get to Snyder's portion of the arc.

Red Hood/Arsenal #1 was uninspiring.

I read the first arc of Red Hood and the Outlaws back in 2011 and enjoyed it a lot, but not enough to keep reading it. The "relaunch" seemed like a good place to pick it up again. Clearly, things went south with the Outlaws -- Kori left, Roy is taking freelance assignments on his own, Jason is who-knows-where -- but the issue doesn't do a lot to bring new readers up to speed.

The story was slight. Lobdell had to set up his new status quo, and that took pages. There wasn't enough Jason Todd for me. (I like the New 52 Jason a lot. He may be the prodigal bat, but he's also fiercely loyal to his friends and family, and he's as smart and as capable as anyone in the Bat-family.)

I'll pick up the second issue to see where it goes, but this is on a short leash for me.

As much as I love the characters and DC comics I just can't bring myself to get into these changes this time. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop and go back to the old status quo again.

Though, I am a bit impressed by the Jim Gordon Batman storyline because I did think it was creative. I just can't get into it.
