DC Comics - Ongoing Discussion - SPOILERS

I read the new Detective Comics yesterday and I must say I really liked this take on the new Batman. I was a bit disappointed there was no Manapul art though.

Because he and Booch are apparently working on something else (possibly Flash, WW or a Justice League book) and will probably be off the book sometime around October if you go by the social media stuff.

Yep. Rich and others have been teasing changes for the Bat Books in October. Dan Didio has said that something major is going down in October as they're not doing anything in September this year.

Interesting that they're still needing to make fourth quarter sales considering how well Convergence did.

The quarters are at war with each other.

If one of them does so well that the others look like shit, changes are made and people are fired.

Besides, as it was mentioned earlier in the thread, Convergence was scab labour working out of continuity, while the real work force of DC was moving to California.

My take away from this is that there is room for a new imprint spring boarded from Convergence or the expansion of something else more rooted, but separate like All-Star.

They used 40 creative people they don't usually use in a way that they don't usually use anyone, and made more money then they had expected to.

It's a brave new world.

Hopefully not. Convergence pretty much shows why a lot of these veteran writers have no place in DC Comics. Rucka certainly. But I'd take Orlando or King over Wolfman or Tieri or Marx.

I just read Superman/Wonder Woman and it was pretty good. I am really starting to enjoy this powered down Superman.

I am surprised how much I'm enjoying "Truth". I am very curious to get to "Superman" and check out the new writer. The sneak peak hooked me enough to keep going and give him a chance. I'm enjoying a lot of what DC has done thus far since coming back. Maybe they're starting to figure things out lol.

So Lois revealing his identity happened off-screen right? What a weird choice.

Just read JLA #1. I can never decide if Bryan Hitch's artwork is amazing or terrible. It's somehow both at the same time.

Speaking of, Superman has a secret identity in this issue. So this takes place BEFORE "Truth"? Did "Convergence" change anything in the real universe?

Hitch's JLA seems to be self contained.

As for Lois...the reveal seems to happen in the main "Superman" book. As mentioned earlier everything has had a non-linear style story telling feel to it, the same in the Bat-Books with Jim Gordon/Batman. Different books are jumping around in the timeline while "Superman" is the present time? That is my take on it. "Action Comics" has already referenced "Superman #41" in the little editors notes.

Yep. The two main books "Superman" and "Batman" seem to be the main core title (obviously) while the other books are being used to "fill in the gap". Oddly, I haven't minded this.

I just read on Newsarama that the Bryan Hitch JLA title is "out of continuity". So they're all just what-if stories not tied to anything going on in the comics. This lessens my excitement for this title considerably.

That sorta spares it from the problems once the delays hit (he has only got 2 or 3 issues) and it's pretty much guaranteed to be shit anyways given the editors involved (same people who let the Finches take over WW) and the fact that Hitch does not have much experience as a comic book writer.

Mr. Light, the Hitch title isn't really a "what if". The new DC has a very loose editorial structure, where the stories themselves carry more weight than whether or not they fit together in a rigid continuity. That's why the multiverse was restored. Hitch's JLA may (or may not) actually be taking place on a different Earth.

Yeah, I'm not going to worry about "when" JLA ( or Justice League for that matter) takes place. It's not crucial for me to enjoy a story. If a book wants to tie into whats happening in other books, that's fine.

As soon as I read that the League were dealing with some kind of Kryptonian threat...I thought that this would be self-contained. It doesn't really matter that it is. Kind of felt like what House of UIster stated about the Finches...he wanted to work on a JLA book and write it to and they granted him one. I am planning on picking it up tomorrow, hopefully his writing doesn't suck.
