Contemporary Anime/Manga in the vein of Gundam/Macross?

A girl that sounds like a "Q"? Nice.

On a completely unrelated note, I'm surprised that the Shin Megami Tensai Persona series hasn't been adapted into an anime. It's teens in a highschool fighting demons with summons... seems almost perfect.
It has been as of last year :p It also sort of sucked but thats a different story lol

Really? Which game did they adapt? 3?

It was sort of a spin off of Persona 3. It featured new characters but was set in the persona 3 universe a few years after the events of the game. There were some character cross overs (I believe Akihito the boxing dude, for example, appeared in the anime). To be honest, I never finished the show. It just sucked too much and my expectations were incredibly high since I loved the games.

Was that, Persona Trinity Soul or something? Didn't watch it so I couldn't attest to it's quality. Maybe that's a good thing.

That's too bad. I'm surprised that they didn't just do a straight adaptation.

Aya Hirano is the Japanese voice actress for Haruhi Suzimiya in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzimiya who's also an acomplished and talented singer.

I mean like Q in terms of her abilities.
I suppose "seems" would have been a better verb thingie than "sounds".

You know, it actually reminds me of that TNG episode with the girl Q who tries to seduce Riker.

Perhaps firehawk should consider Haruhi as his next choice? lol. After all, it was the unique combination of watching Haruhi, FMP and Eva all at the same time that made me a fan of anime.

Well, it is one of best anime in the comedy genre I'd say. Very good watch.

Is that video of ENOZ doing that live still there? Then he could see what she looks like. :techman:

or you could just show him the picture of her wearing the upside down bikini  Shes got a great voice, shes a great actress, and shes not hard on the eyes but I get the feeling she isn't too bright

Yeah that's why I found VOTOMS so appealing to I shamelessly plug it every chance I get. In addition to the pilots thing (I know Gundam helped invent it it was new back in '79 but not so much now) is Gundams getting stolen SEED had that problem two series in a row.

I speak English, can stumble my way through Spanish if I had to, and know some Japanese but give me an algebra problem and...:censored:

Boy, the only one of those I'd put anywhere near my top 20 is Noir. Maybe Kanon06.

Probably the hottest VA out there
As much as I'm in love with her, I do have to admit there are plenty of good ones out there:

Tanaka Rie, Inoue Kikuko, and Horie Yui are some off the top of my head that are all easy on the eyes

Well since we're doing top 20 lists lol

1-Evangelion (yeah, i still love the show...so what! :p )
2-Haruhi
3-FMP, FMP Fumoffu, FMP TSR
4-Higurashi, Higurashi kai, Higurashi Rei
5-Black Lagoon
6-Tsubasa Tokyo Revelation
7-Mai Hime/ Mai Otome (this one is a ginormous guilty pleasure lol)
8-Clannad After Story
9-Kanon 06
10-Schoool Rumble

After this it just gets too difficult choosing so im gonna leave it like this for now

Entirely possible since you are not me and my tastes cover a wide range of genres. It comes from a top 100 list I did when I was really bored once. I kept it updated....well mostly. I haven't tweaked it in months so it's probabally off (EDIT: Now it's up to date although there's at least one series I'm currently watching which will probabally make the list once I'm done with it.):

I liked Heroic Age...a space opera that reminded me somewhat of the Startide Rising novels. I'm not a big fan of all the Gundam Series but Gundam 00 is really impressive. I also like Starship Operators, which focuses a lot on tactics and the reality show craze.

RAMA

I also finished Macross Frontier and... so awesome. It really is the BSG story, complete with finding "a home planet" and a "fleet on the run" but just done so much better. I didn't even mind Alto's overacting screams (AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!).
I did find the ending a bit cheeky though... but, hey, I kind of understand why they did it.
I LOVED the ending. Not as much as my brother though who's seen the final two episodes about fifteen times  Loads of awesome and the good kind of fanservice, plus they even redeemed Ranka a bit in the end. But Sheryl is still best.

I mean the actual ending though, where they don't resolve the love triangle. That way ALL the shippers are happy.
Ah THAT end. I thought it was kind of a copout, but I went with it since there's going to be an OVA ecentually and a movie is in the works. Sheryl is by far the best of the girls in my opinion though. Ranka just started rubbing me the wrong way towards the end of the series.

Really with anime, the kings of Space Opera are Gundam and Macross. There are other space shows out there but they are mostly hard sci-fi.

I'd add Legend of the Galactic Heroes to that list as well. Epic in every sense of the word. Shame it's never been licenced.

Ranka was creepy because looks like she's 12. It's only when they said she was 16 at some point that I was kind of relieved.
