Concerns about the new ST

So the default term would be "hen" instead of "he"?

BTW, how exactly would you pronounce "hen"?

I love New Frontier, but Selar doesn't have her husband's katra.
well, it was explained she was in pon-far with her Husband... and he died mating during the pon-far and because of this she had his katra... if that's Vulcan term of soul... and there were many comments where her duality, and dual genders of the CEO.. Selar is pregnant with CEO's baby in book 8 and to be honest I left off after book 8 to read the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and moved in to reading Jules Verne so its been awhile... And even then, I am not certain if I had read it before or after I read the first three books of "The captains table". I have the voyager captain's table in the queue because at the end of each captains table they have a supplement of the next captain book... the western theme looked fun, so I am certain it is good. Probably the western I pictured was more like something from OK coral in TOS.

'Hon' is she and 'han' is he, and the now the is also the increasingly common neutral Hen, you can use that when you do not want to use a gendered pronoun. its pronounced like you would pronounce the English word hen.

Have you read Vanguard? T'Prynn in Vanguard has her husband's katra. Selar does not have her husband's katra. I really think you're just mixing up the two characters. I've re-read the first half of NF over the last month or so, so the details are very fresh in my mind, and I've read the early books several times. I'm sure if Selar had her husband's katra I'd remember as I'm a big fan of Selar.

She does have delayed pon far. No, I have not read Vanguard. after paging through some of the later books to find a quote... of which I wish I could find the original mating session in the series to which Dr. Selar's delayed ponfar began in the death of her husband while mating, yet... I seem to recall that there was several jokes about "Burgy" having two genders and Selar's pon far being fitting. It looks like she does not have the Katra... but is suffering from Pon far sickness in delay. Its possible I mistook delayed ponfar with Katra because he died... and well, the Vulcan mysticism of star trek 2 & 3 made me relate the two. Sorry, I don't have time to read through the book again for a more detailed quote.

I do recall Dr. Selar going to -> Soleta -> being approached by burgy -> going to Calhoun -> actually mating with Burgy to which she becomes pregnant with chief engineer Burgy's child

Because we all need to be the same. You know, cause it'd really suck if there were different ways of doing things.

And what does that even mean "catch up"? Since when does being different mean being behind or being inferior?

But there's always room for improvement in anything. And if another language comes up with a good idea first, we shouldn't be afraid to adopt it just to be different or for tradition's sake.

I mean, it's not like English hasn't pillaged other languages before, or changed its favorite pronouns on occasion. One doesn't really hear "ye" or "thee" much anymore, unless you're trying to sound archaic . . .. :)

It was an offhand comment not intended to be serious. There's no reason to read so much into it.

Hen might work in Sweden and in some other countries, but in English speaking countries I am not so sure. I mean who wants to be called the same as a chicken?
I mean, hens are pretty dignified. At least it's not like being called a chicken, or a turkey. :p

It just struck me as I read the titles of the threads..only Trekkies would post a "Concerns about the new ST" discussion instead of a: "OMG a new ST show after 12 years" thread.:guffaw:

Ha. I wish. Every "rebooted" or sequalized project that's been dormant for awhile has posts like this OP online. And too many, like this OP, are based on homophobia/sexism/racism. Which marketing teams often use to their advantage, painting people who might have reasonable concerns once information about the project actually comes out with the same hophobic/sexest/racist brush as the initial haters.

There's a nice write up from someone inside the Ghostbusters reboot (seemingly verified by his/her describing the trailers/plot of the film prior to the trailers released and months before the movies, but up to each person if they believe it is valid or not) about how the marketing team loved the initial misogynistic response to the idea of a female Ghostbusters team and made sure those comments are the first you see on any online forum they controlled. That way they made it appear that the only reason people weren't interested in the movie was because the cast was female, thus making going to the movie a kind of political statement and making movie goers feel as if they were doing something important by spending their money to see it / convincing others to spend their money to see it. "Fight sexism by giving your money to multi billion dollar corporations!" being what the marketers tried to boil the sexest backlash against Ghostbusters down too, according to this supposed insider.

Personally, I think the trailers to the new Ghostbusters look unappealing and don't intent to see it until it hits Netflix. But I don't like any of Feig's work other than Freaks and Geeks, and that seemed to be more Apatows baby. So I'm not surprised it's not connecting with me

How many shows get more incarnations to learn from than fingers on one hand to count them?

How many other fan-communities think their show is unique and it can only learn from its own previous incarnations instead of every other TV show that is succeeding in the current marketplace?
