I'll try. I'm a bit rusty with the Bat'leth myself, but if they're drunken Klingons we should be able to take them between us. Qapla'!!

I think Niners tend to be the most friendly of all the Trek fans. Some of the others (particularly Enterprise and TOS fans) can be a bit closed minded and aggressive if you don't share the same opinion on everything. I like all Trek to a greater or lesser extent, though DS9 in my favourite.

Thank you for your support, Blade Runner! :D I think the Klingons've calmed down a bit now, though ... they're merrily drinking bloodwine and tomorrow may well be able to corroborate the headache theory! :D Sorry you're feeling bad btw, Shameless McBundy! :( *offers mug of Tarkalean tea*

From what I've seen, the DS9 forum is particularly friendly! There seem to be fewer shipper wars here, at any rate. I was actually on the BBS a looooong time ago, albeit briefly, as an ENT fan and  an Archer/T'Pol shipper, vastly outnumbered of course. Those discussions could get really heated at times, more than anything I've seen here.

stkids ... I agree with you about the tradition thing, wholeheartedly! I would have quite liked more exploration of Ezri's theory about the hypocrisy of the Klingon Empire - the straightforward ideas of "honour" and glorious war compared to the actual corruption and scheming. But too often I thought the Klingon episodes fell back on traditional culture without really questioning it, and if you're not that enamoured of the culture itself ...

I can't believe my father. For a year he was on my back non-stop about landing a job with benefits and now that I have benefits effective January and have told him about it he's telling me to check this and this and that, right even before he says congratulations...

Anyway, I'm looking forward to 70's Battlestar Galactica marathon tomorrow.

I hope they show the two-parter with the Pegasus. It's nothing like the 00's version of the two-parter involving Pegasus but it was still one of the better episodes.

^ Your father and my mother must be related.

Always lookin' for that dark cloud when you tell 'em about the silver lining!

Hey again. *grabs bottle of bloodwine* (in honor of the whole Klingon discussion)

Garth, my father is like that too. He's always on my ass to do things and when I do them he's still giving me shit (though I'm sure he's just trying to help and protect me). I think fathers in general are very protective of their children, they just have a funny way of showing it IMO.

So, I'm just watching DS9 again and I've realised something very important. You ready? - DS9 is awesome!

Now I know that's not exactly news to anyone here but let me go into more detail. Usually I skip the episodes that are bad-average, but not this time. That's when I realised that even the worst DS9 episodes are so much better than say your average VGR episode. There's not one real stinker among them, hell even 'Let he who is without sin' is watchable. Though I've always known DS9 was great, right now I'm gonna say that DS9 truly deserves the title of 'best TV show ever'. Who's with me?

I'm all with you there, DsZ. DS9 was truly superb. It's a real shame that its first couple seasons are only shadows of the greatness of some of its later seasons. If it had started out as strong as it finished, I bet it would have been a lot more popular and there would be even more people saying it's the best show ever.

^It's first couple of seasons added to it's greatness.

Anyway, I've missed a lot in this thread, but we have all been talking about the Ferengi so I might as well give my few pennies worth. There are some ferengi shows I like, and some that I don't. Overall, including the bad ones, they contributed to one of DS9's strangths, developing the characters/aliens, and the universe in which they inhabit. The ferengi stories made a nice little arc and it all came full circle when Rom was made Grand Negas, which is something I didn't like but I did understand after thinking about it for a few years. :D

Anyway, there were only a few bad Ferengi episodes like Ferengi Love Songs, half of Dogs of War, and Profit and Lace. I actually liked some of the ones that never get mentioned like The Nagus, Rules of Acquisition, Prophet Motive, and my favorite one which used to be one I hated: The Magnificant Ferengi. They were also good comic relief, and that is something that DS9 did extremely well.

Yeah, I agree. Me and my g/f are slowly going through the show again and we're enjoying every single episode. :)

^ It's been my favorite show ever for a long time. It's just a great show! And every time I forget that, I see an episode I haven't seen in a while and it reminds me.

Armageddon Game was on Spike yesterday, and it had been a while since I'd seen that one, for example. Great episode! :)

Llanita, I'll help you with those Klingons....

... LIVE, FREE GAGH FOR ALL AT KAGA'S!! :D ...

Now that they've rushed to my nearby restaurant, feel free to say what you like

Me? I can't stand them doggone Klingons!!! Just hate em! Oh wait, you said KLINGONS  Just kidding

They are my favorite race on Trek. True, all they do is based on a warrior's code of honor, or at least that's what they say. But you have your schemers, your weak ones, those who couldn't care less about honor, etc. Then you have your true believers, like Martok, and those who I call "Renaissance Klingons", like Worf. And, of course, they all love a good party! Klingons have had a long and plentiful stay in Trek, but they've grown and been fleshed out in various ways. That's why I can enjoy them.

Not to mention those Klingon women... growl!!

BigFoot, glad your hand is better!

^^^ :guffaw:

Ahh, thankee for enticing them with gagh! :D Save some for me, I'm from the Mediterranean and we're cool with tentacled food here! :D

Heh, to each their own! I love the long-necked ones, you love the big-forehead ones! Not to mention, I like it when they get a bit of complexity, I guess I just feel that in a lot of episodes that didn't happen, at least in my opinion. But am already feelin' a bit bad for causing controversy here in the bar! :o

*offers a bottle of bloodwine as peace offering* ... :)

Well, like you said, we all defend our favorites. No harm no foul. And I've got a round of slitherin' goodness just waiting on ya ;)

And the Klingons did get a lot of one-dimensional treatment. That's why I so highly value the times when they fleshed them out more.

I just defended "complex Klingons" in 2 other threads around here. Is there a theme going this week???

Well, there's the "Are Bashir/O'brien friends/lovers?" poll going. That oughta break up the monotony

^^^
Heh, I think there is a theme going! Some threads seem to kick off other threads, like the Bashir/O'Brien one (think it was a post in General about buddy pairs first)!

And I've got a round of slitherin' goodness just waiting on ya ;)

 *holds out plate* :D!

*takes bottle* :D

Seriously though, don't worry. It's not controversy, just healthy debate. Anyway, I said I did like the Klingons/Klingon episodes, but what I didn't say was that I like the Cardassians more. ;)

Just finished watching the two parter of Improbable Cause/The Die is Cast for the second time.

It's definately one of DS9's finest episodes. I actually forgotten how good it truly was. Andrew Robinson and Rene Auberjonois were fantastic.

Anyway after all that I need a drink...

*grabs bottle of Kanar*

I'm gonna watch Explorers now for a change of pace.
:D

^Yeah, Improbable Cause is one of the best written, best dialoge episodes Star Trek ever did. Odo and Garak were so great together. Die is Cast is kind of a step down, but it is a small step. The torture scene, the action space battle, and watching the Defiant ram through those two dominion ships made it feel a bit epic.

Enjoy Explorers. I really loved how you would get such an action oriented episode one time, and then the next one would be quiet and calm.

I`m not really a huge poster on this board, so I need advice, I`m about to buy my first season of DS9, I have watched most of DS9 which episode do you recomend I buy first?

Hmmmm... that's a tough one. If you intend to eventually get every season and have seen most episodes, I'd go for either season 1 (as a good a place to start as any ;)) or season 3 (as this is when DS9 really begins to come in to it's own.)

:)

*grabs a Raktajino*

Like I said I would, I watched Explorers last night after the other two episodes. It's a really nice episode. I love the Sisko/Jake main storyline, but some of the best bits for me come from the B story with Bashir and O'Brien.

 at the two of them completely drunk and singing Jerusalem. Such a lovely moment of friendship between them.

Bashir - Isn't there an explanation somewhere in between?

O'Brien - You're not an in-between kind of guy.

Bashir - What do you mean?

O'Brien - People either love you or hate you.

Bashir - Really?

O'Brien - I hated you when we first met.

Bashir - I remember.

O'Brien - But now...

Bashir - But now...?

O'Brien - Now... I don't.

Bashir - That means a lot to me, Chief, it really does...

O'Brien - That's from the heart, too... I really do... not hate you anymore...
