From what I've seen, the DS9 forum is particularly friendly! There seem to be fewer shipper wars here, at any rate. I was actually on the BBS a looooong time ago, albeit briefly, as an ENT fan and
an Archer/T'Pol shipper, vastly outnumbered of course. Those discussions could get really heated at times, more than anything I've seen here.

I would have quite liked more exploration of Ezri's theory about the hypocrisy of the Klingon Empire - the straightforward ideas of "honour" and glorious war compared to the actual corruption and scheming. But too often I thought the Klingon episodes fell back on traditional culture without really questioning it, and if you're not that enamoured of the culture itself ...

I can't believe my father. For a year he was on my back non-stop about landing a job with benefits and now that I have benefits effective January and have told him about it he's telling me to check this and this and that, right even before he says congratulations...
Anyway, I'm looking forward to 70's Battlestar Galactica marathon tomorrow.
I hope they show the two-parter with the Pegasus. It's nothing like the 00's version of the two-parter involving Pegasus but it was still one of the better episodes.

Garth, my father is like that too. He's always on my ass to do things and when I do them he's still giving me shit (though I'm sure he's just trying to help and protect me). I think fathers in general are very protective of their children, they just have a funny way of showing it IMO.

Now I know that's not exactly news to anyone here but let me go into more detail. Usually I skip the episodes that are bad-average, but not this time. That's when I realised that even the worst DS9 episodes are so much better than say your average VGR episode. There's not one real stinker among them, hell even 'Let he who is without sin' is watchable. Though I've always known DS9 was great, right now I'm gonna say that DS9 truly deserves the title of 'best TV show ever'. Who's with me?

I'm all with you there, DsZ. DS9 was truly superb. It's a real shame that its first couple seasons are only shadows of the greatness of some of its later seasons. If it had started out as strong as it finished, I bet it would have been a lot more popular and there would be even more people saying it's the best show ever.

Anyway, I've missed a lot in this thread, but we have all been talking about the Ferengi so I might as well give my few pennies worth. There are some ferengi shows I like, and some that I don't. Overall, including the bad ones, they contributed to one of DS9's strangths, developing the characters/aliens, and the universe in which they inhabit. The ferengi stories made a nice little arc and it all came full circle when Rom was made Grand Negas, which is something I didn't like but I did understand after thinking about it for a few years.
Anyway, there were only a few bad Ferengi episodes like Ferengi Love Songs, half of Dogs of War, and Profit and Lace. I actually liked some of the ones that never get mentioned like The Nagus, Rules of Acquisition, Prophet Motive, and my favorite one which used to be one I hated: The Magnificant Ferengi. They were also good comic relief, and that is something that DS9 did extremely well.

They are my favorite race on Trek. True, all they do is based on a warrior's code of honor, or at least that's what they say. Seriously though, don't worry. It's not controversy, just healthy debate. Anyway, I said I did like the Klingons/Klingon episodes, but what I didn't say was that I like the Cardassians more.
Just finished watching the two parter of Improbable Cause/The Die is Cast for the second time.
It's definately one of DS9's finest episodes. I actually forgotten how good it truly was. Andrew Robinson and Rene Auberjonois were fantastic.
Anyway after all that I need a drink...

^Yeah, Improbable Cause is one of the best written, best dialoge episodes Star Trek ever did. Odo and Garak were so great together. Die is Cast is kind of a step down, but it is a small step. The torture scene, the action space battle, and watching the Defiant ram through those two dominion ships made it feel a bit epic.
Enjoy Explorers. I really loved how you would get such an action oriented episode one time, and then the next one would be quiet and calm.

Hmmmm... that's a tough one. If you intend to eventually get every season and have seen most episodes, I'd go for either season 1 (as a good a place to start as any ) or season 3 (as this is when DS9 really begins to come in to it's own.)
