Bar 'n' Grill - Part II

Sorry, Vash and Lord Garth... :( (btw I don't mean to come across as patronising or anything, so am really sorry if it appears that way! just wanted to respond ...)

I don't know if anyone else gets this, but New Year's is the one for me that really doesn't live up to the hype - don't know why, think I tend to view the new year with trepidation rather than excitement! And heck, all-nighters are rarely worth it unless they're VERY fun.

But as you say, they're just several days out of the whole year that get emphasised so much, you feel you SHOULD have a great time and it doesn't always work out that way. Good sides and bad sides ...

Christmas is just a day to me. I'm more into the meaning of the day - even if we did filch the whole thing from the pagans. The hype and commercialisation annoys me. The atrocious "music" repels me. :D

And unfortunately for a lot of people it's a very depressing time of year. Kinda defeats the purpose, doesn't it?

Hang in there, Vash. ;) You too, Garth.

I've decided that Babylon 5 has the greatest opening credits of any SF series in existence. This is a fact, and no correspondence of any kind will be entered into on the subject. I have spoken. :p :D

I have got to get around to watching B5 (yet) again - soon. :D

It certainly has. I think when I've finished making my way through DS9 again (I've just seen The Way of the Warrior), I'll start B5 again.

Oh and Annie, I'll have some Kanar if you're offering. ;)

Which year's opening credits are you talking about? In the U.S., anyway, all of the seasons have different opening credits.

I like some ALOT, but a couple of them I didn't care for as much.

But B5 has some really great music anyway, IMO.

I wish a bunch of us could watch it together and discuss it in here. I think that would be fun. :D

Currently, I'm at the end of season 4 with B5...although I've not watched any episodes in a few months. See, I'm also watching Buffy season 5, Angel season 1, The X-Files season 7, and The 4400.

I further decided this morning that season 5 has the best overall package - visuals, voiceovers and especially the music, which is fantastic. S3 is next, then S4, with seasons 1 and 2 on a par and not far behind.

Totally agree about the music for the series as a whole. There are a number of shows I'm supposedly working my way through at the moment - Blakes 7, Lost, new BSG...but I think B5 will be next cab off the rank once I finish Blakes 7. Maybe. :D

I've started to watch B5 for the first time and have seen the first few episodes (the pilot and then the four episodes on season 1, disc 1). I have season 1, disc 2 from netflix currently sitting next to my TV. I intend to watch it at some point but haven't had too much desire to do it soon. I wasn't all that impressed with the first several episodes. I know I've heard that it gets a lot better after season 1. That should give me incentive to get through season 1 quicker, but it doesn't. But with the way all of you gush over B5, I have to hold out hope that there's some good stuff in store for me!

Many (but not all) B5 fans readily admit that season one takes a bit of effort to get through. It takes a while to set up the universe and to establish the characters and the themes the series deals with...but persistence brings its rewards. Stick with it. There are several episodes in the latter part of S1 that that make the effort worthwhile.

If you're not hooked by then the show may not be for you...and that's perfectly okay. ;)

I think you've just formulated an excellent thread idea! :D I'm most definitely in!

Can we agree, though, that as soon as someone breaks the play nice rule and starts up the whole B5/DS9 debate that we kick them out .. hard?

Did you guys know that DS9 ripped off B5? Or was it the other way around? ;)

I have just finished watching B5 season 4 and will start with season 5 tomorrow. I totally forgot how good that show was!
Of course not as good as DS9, but that's almost impossible anyway. :vulcan:

Yes! Please! Do not give up!!!

The first season of B5 is sorta tough to get through the first time through it. But you should know that after you watch B5 through to the end, you will appreciate season 1 *alot* more because there is alot of foreshadowing in it that right now you are unable to see.

Season 2 of B5 gets ALOT better. And season 3 of B5 is, in my opinion, the best single season of ANY scifi show EVER. And the episode Severed Dreams (from season 3) is, IMO, the best single *episode* of any scifi show EVER.

If you get to the end of season 2 and hate it, then maybe you ought to quit. But you won't hate it - trust me on that!

I can almost promise you that if you stick with B5, you will one day consider not giving up on it the best scifi-related decision you ever made.

If we get this little group together to watch it at once, maybe you can watch it with us? That way you'll be inclined to keep up...and we can get you through the first season as a team. ;)

Moving on...

As for the idea of all of us watching B5 together, I love it! :) I hope several folks will express interest cus it would be fun for us to do as a group.

But no worries about the DS9 v. B5 debate. I will make it crystal clear that that particular topic is off-limits to the discussion. That particular War Without End has been discussed and discussed a million times...and most times, nothing good comes out of it. Neroon doesn't even allow it to be discussed at all in SFF...and although I have allowed it in here, I have no problems pulling the trigger and closing the discussion, if necessary.

I'm not really sure though if we can have our own thread for it without forcing it into a pure SFF thread....and thus into the SFF forum. Which sorta defeats the purpose.

Before anyone starts a thread about this, lemme clear it with Bonz and maybe Neroon or somebody, 'mkay?

I think it will be okay with them because we have a specific agenda and a specific group that wants to participate...but I feel obligated to make sure everyone is cool with it. ;)

^It's ehm ... Niner group bonding ... yeah .. that's what it is :D

Okay .. Niners ... + SB ... I'm pretty sure she'd want to join :D

I'd really like this :D

I suppose I could be persuaded to join in something like that....

:p

Vash, stop babbling in here and get this idea cleared for takeoff immediately. :D

^ SB is an Honorary Niner, so she is naturally included.

She is a wonderful person and a good friend, despite this lapse of judgement on this one issue.

Well, okay...*two* issues if you count The English Patient.

:D

Edit: Oh look! She's awake!

You're babbling, woman. Get on with the important stuff. :p

Although if you're going to mention that...movie...again I'm outta here. :p

And of course I'm awake. :p

:D

Anyone else feeling dizzy? :wtf:

Some serious repetitive activities in those avs :D

Okay...I sent a PM to Neroon about this, so I'm sure I will hear something back soon.

I will also clear it with Bonz. Hopefully I will see her around here tonight.
