I've been revisiting my favourite ever SF series, Blakes 7, recently. It's even better than I remembered it. Yay. :D

I wish I could see that show someday...

Someday...when it' makes it to R1 DVDs.....

Oh...and guys...SB is right about the 'bar' thing.

Please, remember that this is NOT a bar thread like you'd find in the lounges. This is just a place for Niners & Honorary Niners to chat.

This is NOT a spam thread...and people who spam this thread with stuff that belongs in the lounge will get friendlied and warned. If you wannna spam, please take it to your respective lounge.

I don't wanna be a buzzkill here....but my intent is not to take traffic away from the lounges. It's just to set up a nice place for us to chat. :)

Thanks!

Did anyone catch the Planet of the Apes marathon today? I managed to see two episodes. I would've watched more but I had to prepare a portfolio.

One of the episodes involved an old flame of Galen's having to remove a bullet from one of his human friends. The other had a human (re)discovering flight.

I thought this was a good show and it was based off of a great movie series. Everything in it is so thinly-veiled and yet it can pass because we're talking about apes instead of humans and so they can exhibit all of our worst traits.

The bigotry against humans and even worse, the bigotry amongst the apes. One scene that stands out is a female Chimpanzee who's trying to remance Galen and talks about how how subtle ideas can only come from Chimpanzees and that Gorillas have no intelligence at all, and the thing is that the Chimpanzees almost resemble humans in apperance and they have British accents whereas the Gorillas are dark, brutish, and thick-headed. It would be like a conversation between whites about black people 100 years ago.

Geez, Planet of the Apes...it's been forever since I saw that. And I really have to check out the (original, of course) movies again one of these days....

*** curses lack of access to something like the Sci-Fi channel *** :p

Yo have access to Optus or Foxtel? TV1 did run some of the Planet of the Apes series but that was 3 to 5 years ago given their rotation of shows thye eventully get back to it.

Hey Vash, please tell me what is considered spamming in a thread about 'nothing'? :wtf:
If I should be spamming right now please let me know. :)

How does Spam taste btw? Whenever I think of spam, I think of that MadTV skit with Orlando Jones where he compares Spam to Racism. That was sum funny shit!

So, back to DS9. Can someone please tell me why most people hate the Ferengi episodes. I've just watched them recently and couldn't find one stinker. Granted, 'Profit and Lace' is not that good but it's still enjoyable IMHO. But who knows, maybe I'm a little biased because of my (intense platonic) love for Brunt.

Thoughts, comments, warnings, bans?

DsZ ... I don't mind the Ferengi episodes either! :) I thought The Magnificent Ferengi and Little Green Men were pretty fun, actually. Mind you, I find the Klingon episodes often quite tedious ...

If you made a real post, such as the one you made, that is NOT spamming.

If you come in here and your entire post consists of

"Hey! I'll have a blood wine!"

^THAT is spamming. That sort of thing belongs in the lounge.

Legitimate conversations of all types are welcome here in this thread. Spam is not.

Got it? :)

Got it Vash

Llanita, I'm glad you liked the Ferengi episodes too. But what about the Klingon eps? Do you not like all episodes they appear in or only the ones that focus mainly on them (Sword of Kahless, Blood Oath, Soldiers of the Empire,...)? I bet you like 'You are cordially invited' though, since it is a comedy.

I also quite like the Ferengi eps. I mean yeah, certain bits can be a bit... annoying lol but overall they're all perfectly decent (and some like The Magnificent Ferengi are just bloody hilarious). :)

Re: DsZ and Blade Runner ... am not trying to incite hatred towards Klingons! :o (believe me, I wouldn't: I value my internal organs in their original packaging! :p) I just find episodes *solely* concentrated on their blood feuds and whatnot a bit repetitive, and thought I'd mention it since we were discussing the Ferengi eps as a whole. I don't really find the Klingons as interesting as other races in Trek, or maybe they're not treated with enough complexity or humour (IMO!). But I know I'm in the minority on this one! :(

*tries to avoid the stare of a few ornery-looking Klingons in the corner of the bar*

^^^ Then, you'll help defend me against those Klingons over there by the hat-stand? *points* The ones giving me the evils??

Please, Blade Runner ... as a fellow Ezri fan!!

Thanks incidentally! I just know that Klingons inspire a lot of fierce loyalty among Trek fans so always tread carefully when saying that am not the biggest fan of them!

Well I for one like most of the Klingon episodes, but I do agree that some of then can get a bit tedious.
OTOH I do really like Klingons, but a part of that is due to the fact that I've read all the wonderful I.K.S. Gorkon novels (written by our dear board-member KRAD). :

But either way, you've got nothing to worry about Llanita. While people in here might disagree with your opinion, they're all very nice so they definately won't bite your head off just cos you might not enjoy the Klingons eps as much as they do. :)

Heh, thanks BigFoot!! :) People here are very nice! :) Think I'm just overly-aware that it's easy to put one's foot in it online, without benefit of facial expressions / tone etc. And in fairness, I love the Cardassians so can understand people sticking up for their favourite Trek races.

I'll try. I'm a bit rusty with the Bat'leth myself, but if they're drunken Klingons we should be able to take them between us. ;) Qapla'!! :D

I think Niners tend to be the most friendly of all the Trek fans. Some of the others (particularly Enterprise and TOS fans) can be a bit closed minded and aggressive if you don't share the same opinion on everything. I like all Trek to a greater or lesser extent, though DS9 in my favourite.

Llanita, I'm with you about the Klingon episodes! On the whole, I didn't like the Klingon episodes. I don't like the Klingon episodes of TNG either. I've never much cared for Worf, either on DS9 or TNG. For me, I think it's mostly because I don't like all the violence. I'm not too keen on the culture in general. I find that everything about Klingon culture is too focused on ritual and tradition. Almost everything out of their mouths is "honor" this, "warrior" that. They have rituals for just about everything. For a similar reason, I'm not too fond of the Ferengi, as every other word out of their mouth is "profit."

Tradition can be a good thing, but I prefer it in the style of the Bajorans. They certainly have tradition in the form of their religion, but I don't find that it is overdone as the Klingons and Ferengi are.

Wow, this place suddenly got busy ...

Well i woke up with a headache. I don't know if it was from the blood wine. Does blood wine cause headaches?
