Bad encounters with cast members

Hey, I wouldn't have suggested it if I thought it was a violation. 1) It's ostensibly the Shat's autograph; 2) profanity is allowed in threads (but not in thread titles, and not if it's being used to insult other posters).

Not Trek-related, but when I had an opportunity to get Denny Laine's autograph at a Beatlefest, the only thing vaguely related that I had on me was a book I'd just bought about how Paul wrote "Yesterday", which he had nothing to do with...he signed without objection.

Not questioning your decision at all. I just found it amusing. :)

The (not even terribly good quality!) Shatner pic went under the bed when I moved and no longer had space on the wall for things, I'll see if I can dig it out over the weekend, though it is a mess under there.

On the plus side, it's a good story to tell in the pub (especially when I can act out his speed signing) so I've probably got more than £25 worth of entertainment from it over the years.

Outside Trek, I once met Ben Browder at a FARSCAPE convention in Burbank. He turned out to be real science fiction fan, who was very well versed in the literature and could talk knowledgeably about Larry Niven, Vernor Vinge, and his other favorite authors. Afterwards, I sent him a care package of Tor Books and got a nice thank-you note in return.

Oh, my other funny Ben Browder story: This was actually the night before the first-ever FARSCAPE convention and the various cast members were wondering what to expect. "Is this going to be anything like GALAXY QUEST?" Browder asked.

"It's going to be exactly like GALAXY QUEST," I told him.

So, sure enough, the next day Browder bounded onto the stage and proclaimed, "Never Give Up! Never surrender!"
Ben Browder has always struck me as a combination between a frat boy, a good ol' boy, and a complete nerd. He sounds awesome.

Why in the world should Adam West sign that? He had absolutely nothing to do with it. Even as a goof, that doesn't make much sense.

It made sense at the time. Still sort of does over 10 years later.

How would it make sense?

Would you ask Zachary Quinto to sign a picture of a young Leonard Nimoy?

That doesn't really explain how having Adam West's signature on a poster for a Batman movie starred by Michael Keaton would make sense.

I've always wanted to start a collection of completely incorrect autographed items. Didn't think it'd be worth the effort if I was the only one who found it funny though :(

It makes sense if you're a douche who is trolling West because you know that he wanted a part in the film and didn't get it.
Or if you're illiterate, and don't know that "West" isn't spelled "Keaton."
Other than that, it's on roughly the same "I put thought into this" level as asking a celebrity to sign a nude fake of themselves you got off a pron site.

It's more like asking Zachary Quinto to sign a TMP poster...

Awesome! I never watched Farscape but I liked him (mostly) in SG1

Met him back in 2004. Very, very strange man, who did indeed act like he wasn't completely with it. He very nearly refused to sign my Keaton/Nicholson Batman film one sheet which I'd had especially imported from the US because it had nothing to do with DC comics or the 60's Batman show. He was a bit of a tosser if the truth be told.

I've always heard that Adam West is a little odd. You could have just said that it's the Batman poster you have and intend to eventually have all of the surviving Batman actors sign it.

There is a Beyond poster out there that is made to look like the TMP poster where Ilia is replaced by the new alien woman. Though that does have Quinto on it so I digress..

unfortunately he's not - he's a card-carrying Nazi, and it's why I can no longer watch Barclay episodes

What? When did this happen?

No. What would be so epic?

Asking Genevieve Bujold to sign a poster of Mulgrew posing as Janeway...

Reading through this thread, I realize that being let down by a celebrity is why I don't attend cons. I've only had two celebrity encounters in my life, and both of them completely ignored me:
Bob Eubanks was doing a live Newlywed Game at our local mall when I was in high school, and a friend of mine worked at a men's clothing store in mall where he got ready for the show; he let me know so I could come down and see him. Granted the guy was getting prepared for a show, but he didn't seem interested in even acknowledging the existence of anyone around him. Of course in retrospect, doing a live game show at a mall must really suck.
Jimmy Buffett was doing a book signing for Where is Joe Merchant back in the early 90's at a local mega bookstore, and I lined up with hundreds of other people two hours early for the event. Unfortunately I was in line amidst groups of parents and their kids. Buffett was really cool to all the kids, but completely ignored me when it was my turn.

What? When did this happen?
A little hyperbole. But not much. He's a hard-right, neo-con teabagger.

From the one time I heard him speak on politics, I'd say he goes a bit beyond "conservative". I have friends who are conservative. I don't think I could be friends with Schultz.... but I still enjoy Barclay.

I got a copy of "The Cat In The Hat" signed by Weird Al. (The connection is that he said it was his favorite book.)

I also got Gary Gygax to sign my 3 leatherbound 3.5 edition Deluxe D&D core rulebooks not long before he passed. Which he didn't have anything to do with creating, directly, but I asked him to sign them "Father of the Game" and his name, and he graciously did. :)

I supposed they could have asked West to sign "The REAL Batman" and his name to it. :)
