Kes, Possibly the Worst Lead Character of the Berman Era? Maybe Kim? Mayweather? Troi? Other?

Chakotay was a decent character, and I like Robert Beltran, but it's yet another case of the Voyager writers just abandoning their premise. It started out that Chakotay, being Maquis, could provide some -- *gasp* -- conflict among the command crew.

But unlike DS9, who embraced the conflict between Sisko and Kira and let their bond and respect come organically over time, Voyager basically had Janeway and Chakotay as best buds within a couple episodes.

Honestly, I think going to UPN may have been the worst thing to ever happen to Trek.

Not just Janeway and Chakotay. The entire Starfleet/Maquis conflict was dropped halfway season 1, until someone remembered and they did the misfit episode at the end of season 1.
Oh, and in season 3 someone remembered and felt like dragging it up for a holodeck bottle episode.

It isn't just you. DS9 truly shined with no bad or boring characters. Hell, a LOT of their secondary/recurring characters (Nog, Martok, Dukat, Winn, etc.) got better development than most leads from VOY and ENT.

Indeed. God, I should rewatch DS9.

Sadly, everything potentially interesting from Voyager's premise was lost. Conflict with the crew? Gone in a couple of episodes. Mistrust between Chakotay and Tuvok or Chakotay and Paris? Vanished. Lack of resources? Minimal.

It just meandered.

Absolutely agreed. From if you'd do a Top 10 of most mis-used characters in Star Trek, Voyager has atleast 6 or 7 there.

Not to mention they wanted us to fall in love with was basically an underage girl. That's just scary. Thank the lord most adult male Star Trek fans didn't fall for that.

Agreed. I feel like Pulaski got more character development in one season than Beverly got in six seasons and four movies.

I guess technically it was *in* 1990 rather than *before* 1990, but "Remember Me" is a favorite Beverly episode of mine as well. I thought McFadden did really well with that one.

While I liked Crusher, Diana Muldair was a better actress than McFadden. I wish she'd stayed.

Fury Kes is best Kes. I wish she'd become a long standing arch enemy to Janeway, pursuing her across the quadrant. And killing Neelix for trying to groom her.

Like Pearl Forrester chasing Mike Nelson. But...if you only live 10 years, an obsessive years long chase seems...counterproductive. Let that shite go, Kes.

"i'll get yoooooooou"
I guess Neelix could be Bobo. Not sure about Brain Guy.
Brain Guy is Harry Kim. Or Chakotay

Type 2 Kombi scout...those should be warp nacelles

the hired a temp by the name of Kes. One year old and under stress.
Their experiment needed a good test case so they stuck her with an Ocampan and shot them into space

robot row call:
KimBot
Tom Paris Servo
Chakooooooooow
Wouldn't they have stuck her with a Talaxian instead?
Not that I mind, I couldn't have thought of what you did.

For all the things DS9 got right, I would’ve been happy with a different actor for Kira. She’s the whiniest freedom fighter in the universe.
I dunno. There's no doubt she started off being pretty shrill and annoying, but once she found the character I thought Nana Visitor pretty much nailed it for the rest of the show. But the same goes for all of them, maybe.
