Ash vs Evil Dead (new tv series)

Ash finally referenced his trip in Army Of Darkness.

I take it the demonic tree part was paying homage to the first Evil Dead?

Yeah, I knew they wouldn't really go there but it still made me a bit uncomfortable thinking of rapey tree branches.

I thought this was the finale so I was a bit wigged out at the ending. Guess we get another week, kiddies.

This episode was very much an homage to the movies with Henrietta, the trees and the extra humorous Ash torments.

This show never fails to make me laugh... and terrify me. Not all the time, but tonight's episode really upped the suspense. I cant't wait to see how they finish this out.

Maybe I'll finally marathon the trilogy again, I've been meaning to do that ever since I started the series, but it keeps slipping my mind.

Well, that was interesting. He actually talked about Army of Darkness. I wonder if we'll find out how he got home the first time.

I'm not as familiar with the second and third movies, so I don't know if the professor and student are new, but I sure recognize that evil tree. And why are there inconsistencies in the timeline?

The Professor was there from the beginning. Not seen, but heard upon the recorder in the first movie. Both heard on tape and seen in flashback and as a damned spirit in the second. The student, though, is new, but that doesn't necessarily conflict with the films. We simply didn't hear any portion of the tape of the Prof' confessing bringing a girl under false pretenses. Doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Nice bit admitting the differences between the first and second films by having Ash question whether he originally found the book upon the desk (ED 2) or within the cellar (ED 1). Maybe their time trip contributes to events unfolding in two (or more) ways.

Well, if we didn't get a journey into Hell, time travel is definitely a fun way to go. So glad they FINALLY acknowledged Army of Darkness, too.

My guess is that it's going to be one of those things where Ash realizes he *has* to accept all the evil the book has brought into his life in order to keep it in check, and he winds up putting it on the desk (with the cellar having been the original unedited timeline). Hell, he might set a bunch of stuff up so that they unfold the way they did in the second movie versus how they were in the first.

It's really the only way they can rationalize both movies' existences, if they're trying to do that at all. With Ash just having memories of both due to his having been there to screw it all up in the first place.

That wasn't a reference to Army of Darkness. Ash travels back to the middle ages at the end of Evil Dead II. The flashback we saw of him travelling back in time was from Evil Dead II too.

Anybody else notice Ruby has blond hair in the previews from next week?

I'd almost suggest that is the Ruby of 1982. But, if she is, then the Ruby we see at the start of season 1 should already know Ash and is striving to stop the evil. Of course, she could be from the future (relative to 2016).

That was one of the references to AoD. There were quite a few, most notably him "fighting" the evil that had gotten into him in pretty much the same way he did in AoD.

Ah, okay, thank you. I remember the professor now.

It was also mentioned that the evil from the book had been unleashed early. Maybe Ash decides he has to travel further back and screws things up even more.

Yeah, I wondered about that.....

That's cool AofD was referenced. I'm waiting until season 2 is released on blu-ray so I can watch it. Yes, the demonic tree(s) are a part of the first and second movies.

What about that guy that Ash gave the bottle of booze to in the town square? Was that a movie reference or foreshadowing of the Back To The Future-style disaster awaiting them in the present?

Havn't rewatched the episode but I think he was the Hobo he almost drove into before time jumping. Gag being, Ash ruined his life (Ash's MO?).

Definitely the same character. Which gives new meaning and legitimacy to the hobo's accusations when Ash and team first arrive in town several episodes earlier.

Was it ever explained why Ash suffered no legal consequences after the first two "Evil Dead" movies events? He never denied that he killed all those people.
