Agents of SHIELD. Season 1 Discussion Thread

I never said they did. What I meant was that, if this were a world where Charles Xavier and Jean Grey and Emma Frost existed, then SHIELD would know that telepathy was real. But since they don't believe telepathy is real, that suggests that those characters don't exist in the MCU, at least not in the form seen in the X-Men movies. (And this idea didn't originate with me. It's from the Wired easter-egg article that was linked to yesterday in post #1002.)

Well, we already knew that mutants aren't in the MCU since that's an X-Men thing and the X-Men aren't part of the MCU.

I think it is more likely that their presence isn't known, and there is no evidence as yet of telepathy. If we take continuity as what is seen onscreen starting with Iron Man, this makes total sense. Xavier and others can still exist, unknown to SHIELD up until this point in universe.

Ditto.

No, wait... I have bailed. :alienblush:
I bailed on the Marvel Universe in the middle of Civil War (after having been a reader since the mid 60s), but this show is great.

You lasted longer than me. I bailed around the whole Spider-Man clone saga and the X-Men Onslaught story. I've only recently started reading Spider-Man again.
Well, the last several years before that were painful; but I tried my best to be loyal and optimistic that things would change.

There are really illegal places, and then there's youtube.
Youtube, torrent, doesn't matter, it's still copyright infringement. The fact that no one's gonna come after you for watching copyrighted material on YT changes nothing, from an ethical standpoint it's the same thing.

AoS: 1x05: "Girl in the Flower Dress."

The team travels to Asia to track down a girl in a flowered dress who holds the key to locating a young man with a dangerous power. Meanwhile, Skye's loyalties are divided between the team and Rising Tide.

Youtube has a flagging system that allows copyright holders to instantly take down any video they feel infringes on their properties. It's actually really nasty and damaging for the content providers since there's little if any oversight on youtubes part, it's a system that gets routinely abused for purposes other than copyright infringement. Taking down negative reviews for example, or to make sure a new trailer floats to the top of the search results.

So yeah, Marvel have a pretty strong YT presence, so you can bet that if those shorts are on there then Marvel are aware and have chosen to leave them be. Probably because they class them the same as trailer. I'd call that tacit approval.

I actually starting ongoing reading of Marvel right before Civil War (I think New Avengers volume 1 was when I was able to start reading Marvel regularly) and I've continued to this day. Civil War is still my favorite comic event.

As for SHIELD, hopefully tonights episode will be good. So far there has only really been one outright bad episode, but this doesn't look like it will be another one. As long as Ward and Sky don't hog all the screen time, I think it will be a goodf episode.

Would Robbie Downy Jr. do a 6 issue arc where he takes over S.H.I.E.L.D.?

And if they can separate Norman Osborn from he Spider-Man rights... Wouldn't it be nice to see how the team on the show deals with working for H.A.M.M.E.R.?

Sky could be a baddie who has always thought S.H.I.E.L.D. is evil. Ward might work for whoever is in charge, no matter who is in charge, loyalty to the office, not the person. Coulsen is an LMD, so you just flick a switch and he does what he is told. The Scottish lovers are so far beneath the paygrade of such a shuffle up, that when Osborn, from a scientific background himself, starts to put science first, they feel seduced and happy about the regime change.

The cavalry saves the day.

Hellicarriers fall.

(And if they fall, then hit the water, then they sink.)

Aquacarriers sink.

(Sinking is how they move from one place to another. An unsinkable Aquacarrier would be a problem.)

Starting to see some elements coming together...callbacks to the events in the first couple of episodes, the Extremis angle....

Cute seeing the explosive device from Iron Man.
