Agents of SHIELD. Season 1 Discussion Thread

In the 70s Doctor Who worked with/for the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce on a weekly basis... U.N.I.T. for short.

After the show came back in 2005, the UN decide that it wanted to distance itself from a dinky little children's drama that portrayed them as a bunch of trigger happy cowboys mowing down aliens with abandon.

UN.I.T. "United Intelligence Taskforce"

Although they still mentioned Geneva, so they hinted at being a UN organization even with the name change.

My wife has officially informed me that if I wish to continue watching this show, I may proceed to do so alone. :(

I think it's more along the lines of NATO given it's precursor was formed by the Allied Forces in WWII. On the other hand, Coulson said something along the lines of "an 084 supersedes all national claims." That would imply that SHIELD have a lot of international clout as even oppressive Central/South American countries have agreed to co-operate with them.

Sad? She gave you permission to watch the show without her. You should be happy. At least she didn't say no more show.

On the other hand, my wife is still interested in the show. I brought the laptop into the hospital so we could watch it together while she recovered from gallbladder surgery.

Didn't he get rapey in the comics at one point?

He forced the women on the Avengers to dress up skeevy and shotguned a polygamous wedding out of a small group of Avengerettes... It might have just been one panel where he's having a fantasy about total victory and ruling the world.

(No not the Brides of Set. That was something else.)

Are you guys going to make comments in this thread through the entire episode? Ugh.

Hopefully it won't be 6 pages of useless "Did you see that?" type comments.

I thought the second episode was average. The raft blocking the hole in the plane was ridiculous! Who else think we will be getting to see more of Coulson's former hot girlfriends in the future episodes?

I think my biggest problem with the show right now is that there no is charismatic Big Bad in the series so far. There show really needs a more interesting main plot to drive the first season. The show feels too much like bad guy of the week.
