Forever the hopeless romantic, huh kimc?
I actually saw the chemistry start to fade after that. A woman calling a man a "good friend" is the kiss of death to any chance of persuing a relationship. I can't say I blame him, seven years was too long to wait for Janeway. Plus, I think it was a bit trying for Chakotay to put up with her stubborn nature and dismissal of his ideas for seven years too.
However, I did think it was cold to still leave Janeway an old maid upon returning to Earth.
Guilty as charged!
Also, I have gotten together with "good friends". Sometimes romance can grow over time or the timing is off but when things finally work out it can be pretty amazing.
Also, I don't see Janeway as "stubborn" and dismissive of ideas. I do understand though that our current society still has a hard time seeing women in positions of authority. Personally, I see Chakotay as no less of a man for taking orders from her.
As for the term "old maid" don't get me started on that one!
