Bring back the big bricked warehouse rooms of the TARDIS!

Pic
yes they mentioned that on Confidentail, they should avoid doing that again ;)

then again im pretty sure they did the same with the Presidents ship in the BSG pilot.

That would be when they used a Ferry's car deck for the landing bay aboard Colonial One which did work better than the inside brick building being the inside of a TARDIS :)
fair enough it worked BETTER than the Classic Who example,

Really cool episode, and I pretty much agree with everything positive about it. And agreed about the PULL TO OPEN comments a few posts up. It's always been clear to me that instruction referred to the smaller phone door, not the main one.

And did Idris say she had 27 console room patterns archived, or the console rooms themselves? If the former, it might have been cool if, during all the instability going on, we saw several different patterns appear while Amy & Rory, and later the Doctor & Idris, were there. Still, it was great seeing the "old" coral pattern again.

It was also cool to finally see some corridors beyond the console room, though they sure were ugly and poorly lit -- though I suppose the lighting was a result of House's influence. (Michael Sheen! I thought his voice sounded familiar!)

And the hodge-podge TARDIS was really neat. I was somewhat concerned that they were going to take off with only one wall up, but obviously that wasn't a problem. :D

Someone way upthread mentioned this episode had a Farscape vibe, and I felt that too, specifically with that cell Idris was locked in.

As for Suranne Jones, I was initially uncertain about her, as her first appearance was so nutso, but once she revealed who she was to the Doctor, the performance worked. Actually, at times she reminded me a bit of Helena Bonham-Carter at her madcap best.

I cheered when 9 & 10's console room appeared, and I cried when she "died". Good stuff. :techman:
Indeed, I was tearing up a bit there too. Matt Smith was brilliant, again.

Pity he makes so much money from his day-job or I'd be nominating him for Showrunner.
Yeah. I'm looking forward to his take on Journey to the West.
I just googled "Gaiman Journey to the West", interesting. Before this episode, I wouldn't be so sure, now, I'm cautiously optimistic. I just hope Hollywood won't ruin it, it need to be a trilogy at least. and I hope they find the right actor to play the Monkey, as the original CCTV series is still been shown often in China, and that had the ultimate Monkey King.

Did anyone else notice that when the TARDIS dematerialised, the Cloister bell was tolling?
Yup! :bolian:

Bunk Beds are cool, a bed with a ladder :guffaw: Also I wonder the like Rory, does the Doctor have a room ? does the Doctor even sleep.
I laughed out loud there. Only The Doctor could think there's nothing wrong to give a married couple bunk beds in their room. :rommie:

I actually loved the corridors, as they reminds me of Five's TARDIS. Loved seeing the Blue Peter's console, great nod to the Classic series' consoles.

Five also jettisoned a great portion of the interior, but I wonder if with enough energy, the TARDIS will just grow some more. Mass, after all is just energy, being dimensionally transcendent, the TARDIS should have the space for rooms.

Watched confidential, loved the montages they had, shows how much the Doctor loves his ship. :)

ETA: did anyone watch the clips about lost scenes on the BBC site? I wish they had the money and time to shoot those scenes, they sound fantastic, especially the one about chameleon circuits. :)

The Doctor pretty much confirmed that was the case. He built a new bedroom for Amy and Rory there at the end without so much as a wave of the hand. I don't see why he couldn't/wouldn't do the same for the rest of the ship.

I think it would be interesting to see what their room looks like given The Doctors alien nature.

^ Oh, anything the writers could come up wouldn't be anywhere near as interesting as my imagination. I prefer hints to the Time Lord's wackiness rather than flat out showing it.

lol and I can easily imagine wallpaper with little police boxes on it.

A few people have commented that the sign on the TARDIS door says "PULL TO OPEN" and I think someone in this episode (Idris, maybe?) points out that the Doctor opens the door incorrectly by pushing. But this interpretation is not correct!! ... and I do find the fact that the issue pops up in the episode itself confusing...

The sign saying "PULL TO OPEN" is on the small door that opens to the compartment that holds the "POLICE TELEPHONE" that is "FREE FOR USE OF PUBLIC". This instruction is not for the door to enter the TARDIS- it is for getting to the phone. Besides, this is a Police Box. Only a policeman should be trying to enter a genuine Police Box, and he wouldn't need any instructions on how to get inside what is essentially his office/locker/mini-lock-up!

Years ago I built a Police Box as a joke (a weekend job using cardboard, tape, and a lot of blue paint!) and I had to recreate the sign, so I may have those words clearer in my mind than a lot of other fans!

I loved the episode. I think the TARDIS may be the most intriguing vehicle in story-telling, and I enjoyed seeing the "soul" of the TARDIS given a tangible form that could interact more directly with the Doctor.
Yeah, Gaiman himself was titting around on Confidential chuckling away at how clever he was for that door bit, when he'd completely misunderstood it. You'd have thought someone there would have known, unless they were too in awe of the writing god to correct him.

It doesn't help that Nine did "pull to open" in "The Empty Child," so we've already got a canon example of how it's supposed to work.

I guess it doesn't, really, but Sexy did make an issue out of it, so it would be nice if the show got it right. (That said, I have no idea how doors open on a real police box, so she could still be correct; but in this context, it's clear that the instruction on the sign is referring to the inset door only. It's just annoying they got it mixed up.)

I can understand it being a little annoying but "some" people here are getting very snobby about it. I'm sorry but it's not as if it is a major story element. Seriously, I don't think whether the doors swing in or out is going to be a major plot element. I think some people are nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking.

I'm nitpicking because, at the time I watched the episode, I got a kick out of how observant and clever it was. Then I thought about it some more and realized they'd made a mistake, and was disappointed. Nothing sinister, I just wish it had been correct.

For what its worth, I wasn't referring to you but any medium that tells a story always gets something wrong. Some of the best TV shows in TV get the blindingly obvious wrong. Again, it's not as if this one error is going to cause Doctor Who to end tomorrow. It just means they need to pay attention in the future.

Doors opening inward seemed reasonable on the assumption that it would make it harder for a criminal to break out (e.g., they'd be pushing out on doors that open in), but that makes more sense.

Police boxes were not used (AFAIK) for the storage of criminals - they were a communications hub for officers.

I thought they were used as both. Handcuff them inside until they can be picked up.
