Doors opening inward seemed reasonable on the assumption that it would make it harder for a criminal to break out (e.g., they'd be pushing out on doors that open in), but that makes more sense.

Police boxes were not used (AFAIK) for the storage of criminals - they were a communications hub for officers.

I thought they were used as both. Handcuff them inside until they can be picked up.

I don't think so - for reasons too boring to get into, I had to research Police boxes for my PhD - from what I recall, they had someone where for an officer to sit and also a phone, I can't remember coming across anything in documentation from the time that suggested they were used to lock prisoners in. This certainly was not a factor in their design, they were communication devices.

The remaining police boxes in Edinburgh are 'doublers', so perhaps there was room for detaining a person.

Also keep in mind this was the first and only time House tried to steal a TARDIS rather than eat one. I'm sure the rest of the time he kept the Time Lords busy with some mindless chatter to give their TARDIS Matrices time to die, only to kill them once they had no means of escape. House's bad luck that he tried to take off with the Doctor's TARDIS before Idris was dead.

I wonder as well if House was in a somewhat weakened state, you could theorise it'd been a while since he'd eaten a Tardis after all.

Wait... it's just occured to me... I researched blue police boxes, my PhD was about the relationship between Time and Space...

Maybe I have a fobwatch here somewhere....

When the episode opens for the first few seconds as the camera pans there is junk in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

To me it looks just like the enterprise until camera reaches a certain point and it clearly is just rubbish.

Anyone else see this?

Ha, I see what you mean. It looks like the original Enterprise.

Do mean this?

For about 2 seconds then illusion is ruined. I am sure it was random chance but I like to think it was on purpose.

I think it's pretty clear you are meant to think it's the Enterprise - there is a term for that sort of perspective sight-gag but I can't remember what it is....

Loved the episode. could have been a 2 parter easily. Would hav4e liked m7ore interac3tion between the dr and the tardis but what we got was great. Was hoping to see some older console rooms but can understand it for budgetery reasons I definately prefer series 5-6 console room to series 1-4.

I'm nitpicking because, at the time I watched the episode, I got a kick out of how observant and clever it was. Then I thought about it some more and realized they'd made a mistake, and was disappointed. Nothing sinister, I just wish it had been correct.

Some police box doors open outwards, some inwards, it depends on the size of the Police box. The smaller Police boxes, like the Doctor's one had outward opening doors. So the show is correct.

Real Police boxes have outward opening doors, otherwise there wouldn't be much space inside for a desk and chair.

The only problem with the show is that they mostly have the doors opening inwards, apart from when they open it outwards.
