DC to REBOOT???

^Well, I kid a little. I wouldn't be commissioning the dude myself, though. His figures are a little too marionetty, and I think he's got a few years and few hundred more drawings before he gets to where he should be to be getting money for his art. Also, man, if I paid for a Wonder Woman piece, I'd expect a background better composed than "broken column, semen lake (I think? I have clearly missed some exciting parts of the WW mythos), and gradient fill." On the other hand, he's done these all in the last couple of weeks, probably as just "hey, let's draw" and probably did not intend these to be subjected to the same criticism I would level at a comic book I paid for. So now I feel like a jerk.

Anyway, Quitely--I'm tremendously conflicted on Quitely. Firstly, I want to say he was perfect for Flex Mentallo. His weird, skeevy people fit a weird, skeevy world.

His run on the Authority worked fine, although at the time I was really disappointed in how he was nothing like Hitch.

And I really enjoyed so much of his work on All-Star Superman, especially the composition and the storytelling and the layouts, and the way Quitely drew Luthor, along with the Fortress and other settings. On the other hand, his Lois Lane is not my cup of tea at all*, and Solaris, the Tyrant Sun mind you, is the size of a building? No. And there are, of course, the usual smattering of Quitely's Freakshow Faces. There's a panel where Clark Kent looks like Michael Myers (from Halloween, not Austin Powers). How do you spend roughly eight years on each issue and let that slip?

Then there's We3, which is the most overrated book in the history of comics, but it's not Quitely's fault. Wow, Homeward Bound with guns. I'm enthralled.

So I like Quitely too, but just a few aspects just really, really jar.

*It's possible that I'm transferring my dislike of Grant Morrison's Lois Lane onto Frank Quitely's rendition of her, though. A-SS Lane is a bitch. "Lol, Superman, go have contests with Atlas and Solomon for my amusement." "Clark Kent? Superman can't be a hick loser like Clark Kent. GTFO." "I like it when you give me things, Superman!"

^ I don't mind the suit being used in "Superman: Man of Tomorrow" or "Justice League" except for the high collar and I still don't get the purpose of Clark having segmented armor, you would think that would make more sense for Batman's costume. It's the "Action Comics" short cape, t-shirt, and pants that has me concerned. Like stated before I really hope this is just part of a "hook" for the cover and not the actual costume. I noticed that they had the other costume in the background for Morrison's clips of the presentation lol. Don't think that means anything but it was interesting.

Action Comics takes place in the past--at least for the first arc, so maybe Superman make his debut in the tee-shirt/jeans suit and gets a proper costume later.

But she has immaculate legs! Every time I read All-Star Superman I just stare at those legs. Especially since Quitely takes so many excuses to draw them.

All Star Lois though was playing around with Superman...pushing his buttons. She didn't care about the arm wrestling or challenges for her attention. Lois wasn't being a bitch, she was having fun with Superman by making him work for her attention instead of simply taking it for granted.

You're right. She wasn't being a bitch. She was just being a woman.

Yes. I just went there. :p

Ha ha, I know what you mean. It's almost distracting how good she looks in that book.

Not really sure which I find sexier though, that Lois or Tim Sale's curvier 1940s Lois...

^ Quietly, Sale, and Gary Frank have done my favorite renditions of Lois. It will be interesting to see how Lois looks and what her status is going to be in the relaunch. I really hope she's just not pushed aside.

Dude, she didn't believe him when he said he was Clark Kent because she thought Clark Kent was too big a loser to be Superman. Which doesn't even make any sense on its face, but ignoring that, that's like being in love with someone who would only like you if you were famous.

There is nothing in that series that convinced me why he ought to even tolerate Lois. Cat Grant was nicer than she was.

Ok, Quitely draws good legs, is true. But I don't understand why her hair was brown and curly. It's a dorky thing to get bent about, but it's like changing Jimmy's hair to blonde and Superman's to pink (because he's an alien).

My favorite latterday version of Lois Lane has got to be Pete Woods'. True, that's the Loisbot 9000, but they're physically identical, so I count that. Otherwise, Curt Swan did a fine job.

Speaking of Swan, this cover explains A-SS Lois, though. Every story is true!

I really like the correct usage of "whom" there. In an era where some DC writers failed to prove they could count ("I'm Brainiac 5, the great-great-great-great grandson of the villain you knew as Brainiac!"), it's nice to see somebody balancing the scales with some proper grammar.

I also strongly recommend going through a cover gallery of the issues around this time. Three issues in a row feature Lois Lane being threatened with death (twice by the justice system for the murder of Lana Lang, once by her own hand), and the cover of 102 features her corpse. Who killed her? Superman. Why? Possibly she killed Lana Lang, but Lana Lang is, like, alive on the cover of 103. I want to believe this is an actual story arc, and 103 up there is a continuation of the story, and the title changes to Satan's Girlfriend Lois Lane from 104 onward.

I'll grant you the Clark being a loser part. That was bitchy of her. The rest of it wasn't though. At least I didn't look it at that way. ^ That cover is genius...and Superman's quote is priceless. Who the fuck exclaims 'Shades of Satan!!!".

I like how you have to convert to demonism to wed Satan, too. It's weird that Satan, of all people, wouldn't marry outside his faith.

This article believes we could have our first DC relaunch character to come out of Flashpoint...said character being a new Apollo.

I didn't really think about that when I read the issue but it's an interesting thought.

Hmmm. That's interesting. Would the character still be gay? I hope so. They already made the DCU whiter (getting rid of Ryan Choi), will they make the DCU straighter? Neither were/are good ideas.

The writer (Paul Cornell?) said Midnighter and Apollo are still gay.

They lost Ryan Choi and have gained Kevin Kho (the new OMAC)

Good to know on both counts.

(Though, would it hurt to have TWO Asian American heroes?)
