DC to REBOOT???

AY, I've noticed you keep referring to the Superman title as Superman: Man of Tomorrow. Everything I've seen, including DC's website, has it just listed as Superman. Is there a difference between the two titles, or has it been listed as MoT elsewhere?

As mentioned previously in the thread Batman continuity and characters will be retained with Bruce Wayne the sole Batman now and Dick returning to his role of Nightwing but in a redesigned costume and operating in Gotham City. "Batman, Inc" will be continuing it's second arc until August then be on hiatus until some point next year.

He can't be the sole Batman if "Batman, Inc." is continuing. Plus, they're releasing Batwing #1 (featuring the Batman of Africa) in September.

^ Broc the "Superman: Man of Tomorrow" book is the George Perez book....and Batman, Inc is continuing NEXT year which means that the relaunch books featuring Bruce as Batman could take place after it.

That doesn't explain Batwing #1 (featuring the Batman of Africa) being released in September. It seems clear that there will still be multiple people named Batman. Bruce is just re-taking the identity for Gotham.

How come the DC solicits refer to it only as Superman? AY, I like ya, but I think you might be wrong on this one.

Who? I thought everyone involved in Batman Inc were keeping their own hero names.

My understanding is that they're taking on the name of Batman (though, they might use both their original name and Batman). The Batman of Africa is introduced in issue #5 of Batman, Inc., and he's going to get his own book in September.

From George Perez himself Broc....

As for the Batman stuff, what is the problem understanding "Batwing #1"? He's the African Batman. I would assume that "Detective Comics" "Batman" and "Batman: The Dark Knight" take place after "Batman, Inc" ends but doesn't negate what that book establishes. Nightwing is Dick who for whatever reason steps down from being Batman. Bruce decides to return to Gotham and works with Damian as Robin, etc. Everything that Batman, Inc and Grant Morrison established is staying in tact.

This is exactly why we need further clarification on these books. Sigh.

And the name of the book is "Batwing" not the Batman of Africa. So Batman of Africa" is more of a nickname like Man of Steel or Caped Crusader.

^ Yeah. I understand the reason for confusion. There probably is still confusion going on in the DC offices regarding this entire thing. I'm really hoping there is in depth coverage and interviews going on regarding this relaunch at comic con.

Judd Winick did an interview on the Comic Vine podcast and he basically said that writers are reading each others' scripts to kep tone and continuity constant, and things are still being written and rewritten. Ideas that aren't really working, or are too similar to things that didn't work before the relaunch are being thrown out or improved upon.

It's possible that the title is just Superman and the first arc is called Man of Tomorrow.

Yes but Winnick is mostly working in the Batside of things and that has a very good degree of editorial consistency thanks to Mike Marts.

Mike Marts has been a pretty outstanding Bat-Editor for the duration of his time in the post in my opinion. It seems like he wants to keep everything well coordinated and managed as possible. The Bat-Family of books for the most part have been pretty tightly coherent...except for perhaps David Finch's "Batman: The Dark Knight".

Bleeding Cool has posted a DC 52 FAQ...

The quotes they use are very specific. I wonder if there were any alternatives in the articles that DC referenced? You know, I think there just might be.

“Unprecedented” – Gawker’s io9 – “With 52 new issues, a bunch of these won’t make it past a couple months,”

“Game-changing” – Big Shiny Robot - “Digitizing comic books could spell the end for shops, and that scares me.”

“Bold” – Popmatters – “is this yet another message being sent to its readers that astonishing feats can only be performed by those under the age of 40?”

“Can’t wait” – ScreenRant - “Jim Lee obviously isn’t a huge fan of the Green Lantern film’s character design either, as the new one looks just like the old one.”

“Sets a precedent” – Blastr - “Hawkman, Vampire and Voodoo? What? We’re just at a total loss. This was another chance to bring in some fresh characters in new and existing books, and it feels like DC is just missing the boat.”

“Dramatic” – The Onion AV Club – “Presumably it will also retell the story of how Superman, Batman, Green Lantern et al. got together in the first place in a way that the kids can relate to, such as having them all meet up through the ‘People You May Know’ finder on Facebook.”

“The ballsiest move of the decade” – Comics Alliance – “if this blows up, DC is completely screwed.”

“The comic book world is a-buzzin’” – Ain’t It Cool News – “&%$# YOU, DC!!!”
