picard may have said it was unsalvageable in his log, believing it to be so, but that doesn't necessarily mean it
was so
, or that the removal team didn't reevaluate it.
it's very possible the saucer was raised, in whole or in part (and then stapled together), stripped for usable parts, and the hulk of it put in the starfleet museum on it's own. similar has been done irl. there's at least one submarine one of my naval history youtubers did a video on that was raised and just sitting in three chunks on a dock next to a museum, but there were plans on at least putting the pieces back together and painting it so it
looks correct.
and it just wasn't worth the time or effort to render it (the saucer) down completely during the dominion war.
the most improbable part of the whole thing is geordi restoring it
secretly and siglehandedly. i suppose he may have had some not-nanmos or other drones, but...
Honestly, having a Fleet Museum kinda flies in the face of humanity having transitioned away from a culture obsessed with the accumulation of things to begin with.
i think of it more of acumulating knowledge and learning from the past. certainly they haven't given up on things like archaeology.
It was a refit of the titan. It was an almost entirely new titan. Same thing happened to the 1701 back in TMP. A refit is different than fixing a ship
a refit usually
is just properly fixing is also very different than building an entirely different ship and using some of the parts off of an old one. what happened with TMP is believable given what happened with multiple early 20th century warships; what happened with Titan is akin to taking all the missile fire control computers and live ammo off of the new jersey when she became a museum ship, and after putting some of them on new built Arleigh Burke, saying that was the same ship.
i liked picard season three, mainly because it felt less dour that the other two seasons, but i recognise it's built on a pile of weird premises and full of missed opportunities.
anyway, i am pretty sure the intent of this thread was things we think they could have or should have done, not yelling at each other over things they
did do that we do or don't like.
like perhaps making guided tours of virtual starships, using the casts of the relevant series (if living)
