In future seasons, I want to see a baddie civilization that offers a different way of doing things compared to the Federation and several of the former UFP members had joined it after the burn.
We have had the Klingons and Romulan Empires. We had the Dominion. We even had the Breen Confederacy. Now i present a new enemy,
The Commonwealth or Commonhold.
These guys are were former UFP members that branded together and started their own thing.
Because of a fear of another burn, they used Romulan type Singularity Drives instead of Warp Engines.
They have a Queen or an Empress as the head of their state and government.
They practice slavery. They do IQ tests to determine who become slaves.
They are quasi fascist in the sense that only those who serve in the military for three years can become citizens and therefore can vote in elections and run for elected office. Those who never serve can remain as civilians. The civilians cannot hold elected office or vote but they can serve in the diplomatic and civil services.
It is a caste based society with citizens, civilians and slaves as the main groups.
Their legal system has varying punishments for the three groups for committing the same crime. The citizens get lighter sentences than civilians while slaves are more heavily punished than either citizens or civilians for committing the same crime. The prisons are also different for the three groups.
They view the Federation as ineffective and a failed experiment.
They are considered politically and economically stable because of their caste system and they do have a nice art and culture scene going on but both things kinda mask the injustice going on behind the scenes.
