Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Erica Ortegas gets promoted and assigned to another starship, finishing her career as an accomplished and respected helmsman and pilot. That's my head canon and I'm sticking to it.
It would certainly be fitting that her entire career could be summed up as "she flew the ship". ;)

Ortegas let her piloting success get to her head and she died doing Titan's Turn. Jellico gave a withering Academy graduation speech about Ortegas' recklessness even long after her death, without revealing that he himself was a hypocritical pilot engaging in Titan's Turn. Meanwhile Riker can do Titan's Turn in his sleep and isn't constantly bragging about his piloting the way Ortegas was. :nyah:

La'an actually stays on long enough for a short stint continuing as chief of security under Kirk. She quickly becomes horrified at the sheer number of "redshirt" deaths that escalate on Kirk's all too frequent landing missions. She's about to write a report to Starfleet Command on Kirk's reckless endangerment of redshirted security crew but then herself becomes a redshirt death on the next away mission. Kirk insists that the timing was just an unfortunate accidental coincidence. Khan isn't exactly happy to read about these events a few years later while browsing the Enterprise computer in sickbay.

La'An is on board during Kirk's tenure. Here she is at Kirk's funeral in "The Tholian Web"

Hey if random old man on Endor can canonically become one of Anakin's 501st clones...
It's more complicated than that, that guy's still Nik Sant, yet Filoni's desire to make him into Rex created a new retcon that Rex WAS on Endor, just offscreen in ROTJ.

And you thought Trek continuity was bad.

Except that's been retracted so it's no longer the case not was it anything official.

Chief of security for the 1701 under Kirk in TOS seems to be a cycling position similar to the D's chief engineer in the first season. For some reason I thought Chekov had this role in TOS starting with season 2 but apparently Memory Alpha says he didn't get it until the movies. Giotto was chief as early as season 1.

If La'an is hanging around offscreen in TOS somehow, she's not only wherever M'Benga was hiding but she also similarly left her previous position like he did.
