They really have a challenge on their hands trying to make this guy live up to his reputation. The closest they've come to making him look smart is something that went down in Rebels.

Seriously. I didn't hate them, but they were very repetitive with some combination of Luke/Han/Leia/Lando getting captured, escaping, getting captured again, and having drawn-out conversations with their captors. And we get it, Thrawn and Pellaeon are fascist Holmes and Watson.

While I do enjoy the Thrawn trilogy, one big problem I tend to have with Timothy Zahn's Star Wars books is they're a little too military sci-fi, not enough pulpy mythic fantasy. That was an issue that plagued a lot of the Legends EU.

They’re perfectly okay, but I’ve never understood why people wanted them to be Eps 7-9.

R2 does bookend Princess Leia's life. He's in the Polis Massa medcenter when Padmé gives birth and he's in the room when Leia dies.

It never made any sense that they would put out movies where the complete plot was known in advance because it had already been released in the form of books.

Rebels/Ahsoka Thrawn is a lot closer to how he's portrayed in his first 3 books, just a loyal imperial admiral, none of the backstory Zahn did later that tried to make him a 'for the greater good' character.

I've never been able to get into any of the animated projects. For example, I tried Maul: Shadow Lord, found my attention wandering, and haven't gone back for any of the rest of it.
