Starfleet Academy Starship Thread

My point is, Why should there be an expectation on new trek to be different in this regard, when Star Trek has been naming ships after human things since day one? All trek writers are lazy when it comes to ship names. Get over it.

There’s nothing to ‘get over.’ You have a different opinion than I do, because I expect better than what you expect.

Apropos of nothing, I find it hilarious DIS season 4 showed that the 32nd century U.S.S. Janeway is not part of the modern Intrepid class, which STO renamed to Janeway class. I mean, like, why wouldn't you assign the name Janeway to the series she is so strongly associated with?

Hell, while I find it difficult to believe Starfleet Command didn't pounce on the name Janeway class as soon as she kicked the bucket of the mortal coil, I have to concede STO's naming makes much more sense.

She got a Courage class which is quite fitting.

This isn't a 'it's fine when they did it in the 90s but not now' thing. it's a 'I always didn't like it' thing.

There's no difference in expectations.

Cool. If you want to die on this hill, by all means do so. But I'm going to keep walking.
He's just stating his opinion. He's not dying on any hill.

You and the others are the the ones making it into a hill.

Last Starship has referenced ships with alien names at the point of The Burn -

USS KTang
USS Nog
USS Martok
USS Solana

The re-use of legacy class designations is exactly the same as Discovery running into Voyager-J: 100 % not laziness, just a little nostalgia bait.

So that's what, our fifth Constitution?

1701
1701- A
1701- G
Miyazaki
Armstrong (aka Kirk Class)

The Armstrong from DSC and her sister ships have never actually received a canonical designation; Owosekun asks, "is that a new Constitution?" That's it.

Does that say Warp Maximum of 9.79? I mean... I guess if we continue with the idea that the Singularity drive is slower than Matter/Antimatter it kinda makes sense? It's been ~750 years since Enterprise-G which could reach Warp 9.99, and nearly 800 since Voyager which was Warp 9.75 or Warp 9.975 (which IMO the 9.75 retcon makes way more sense).

IIRC D'Deridex peaked at 9.2 in Beta Canon, but there was always just a general assumption the Romulans were overall behind (which Sternbach more or less confirmed in the Eaglemoss manual on the Science Ship).

No, the TNG Romulans use singularities to power their warp drives. The singularity drive is explicitly a warp alternative, a completely different FTL propulsion method which seems to use singularities themselves to get from A to B.
Homage to Event Horizon (1997):

I think that in the past, the people in charge made a greater effort to portray Starfleet as a realistic, well-structured organization. There were occasional hiccups, of course, but overall there was a sense of oversight and internal logic. Nowadays, it often feels more casual—almost as if anything can happen simply because someone thinks it’s a cool idea, without much regard for consistency.

For example: “I’m a fan of Halloween, so let’s slap NCC-1031 on the hero ship.” Or, “I love the 23rd-century Shangri-La design, so let’s bring it into the 24th century mostly unchanged.” Then it’s described as a refit of the Titan, and on top of that, it’s given one of the most prestigious names in Starfleet—despite being described as a mediocre rust bucket. Heck, Strange New Worlds is now in its third season, yet the rank stripes of the main characters still haven’t been corrected.

There's also this image of how a Romulan singularity is used to power warp (and still uses dilithium to regulate the power flow from the singularity itself, which is fed deuterium and anti-deuterium as reactants).

I'd agree that this version of the singularity drive is intended to function more like Event Horizon or BSG as a point-to-point method of folding space time to move an object.

Conversely, the Vulcan project SB-19 was more of a "transwarp gate" style FTL system that could work either as a catapult or transport a ship from one gate to another further away extremely quickly.

The corridor is a reference to the Hiawatha in Discovery, i thought?

That one was probably inspired by EH as well.
The similarities between EH and the sixth episode of SFA are more numerous and obvious: black hole FTL, ship and crew lost during experiment, horror

When in the past was that, exactly? The structure of Starfleet operates at the need of plot. Cutting out "Structure" that slows down the narrative.

The Bozeman's registry number is "1941" because Greg Jein worked on a film with that name. Probably more examples of homage naming in "the past" as well.

That's actually been a thing throughout all of Trek, they just did a better job of hiding it in past shows (such as taking a 4-digit date of significance to someone and then adding a 7 in front because that was the registry range of the time, just as an example)

1941 word still perfectly fit into the range of the Constitution being 1700 and the Excelsior being 2000.
Makes perfect sense as the Bozeman is lost (moved to the future) in 2278, only a few years before TWoK (2280's). Being that the Bozeman is a Miranda-class derivative, the registry fits fine for the time period.
