Not having seen previews for this specific episode, I started off thinking it was just going to be a so-so teen dramedy. But there were several happy surprises! The one at the end being my favorite.

I had no idea that was Tawny Newsome until I saw this thread. Didn't recognize her under the prosthetics, and she played a very different character than Mariner. The more I think of it, the more I'm able to see
Jadzia and Ezri in Illa Dax's mannerisms and dialogue. Newsome did a great job portraying the essence of both characters. I'm certain she watched a bit of DS9 to capture Dax's essence. I do wonder though, if Illa Dax will continue being referred to as "Professor Illa," or if they'll forget that detail now that the surprise twist is over, and just have everyone start calling her "Dax."

The ending was bittersweet. Google tells me that Avery Brooks is still alive, and that there's no public information about his health, but the way this episode closed makes me feel like we're going to get some sad news soon. Unless he's just 100% confirmed retired from acting, after that voice-over cameo.

Does anybody know the name of the song that is playing when SAM starts the bar fight? The closed captioning shows the lyrics as "I'll find a remedy, pure energy" but when I search for it, I find no matches.

It's also really confusing how someone as introverted and insecure as Kelrec has created a bunch of students so uniformly...well **** in their behavior.
They behave like this because they're insecure.

Imagine training and studying your whole life to enter a prestigious school to set up your career only to find out when you enter that they decided to reopen the super famous school your school was opened to replace and now you have the worry in the back of your head that your school is going to become obsolete.

Yikes. I decided to watch this because of DS9 connection. Sorry. But I thought it was awful. Sadly it seems like a lot of people thought it was but then gave it high marks because of the DS9 stuff like Cirroc Lofton etc ....But no amount of Fan wank was gonna save this episode for me. It was just too silly for my tastes. About the only part I like was the Sisko Museum with Jake. But that was not enough to prevent me from giving it a 1. 😢 Good day.

Yeah. Gone are the days of thought provoking trek and stories so good they stick with us for years. I also gave it a one.

Tawny Newsome is a giant DS9 fan.

And Avery Brooks has been retired since the early 2000s. Even this cameo was just a voice clip from some earlier work of his.

Avery Brooks is just fine.

I wonder if the "Bajorans don't even show Sisko's face any more" thing came about due to likeness rights rather than a story idea. I'm not saying it was, just wondering. Seems like it may have been a convenient way to get around some complication.

I'm sure that's the case. I think they were lucky that Brooks consented to use his audio. But he was probably not interested in granting them the use of his likeness, rather than the producers just not wanting to pay Brooks royalties.

Well, this was a mixed bag to say at least. In the beginning I was convinced this would be the instant classic. The relationship SAM has with her creators gives finally some serious sci-fi vibes (BTW, was it just me or did way it kinda reminiscence of the original Data backstory?) and I liked the cute narration in general. I also fancied the huge wave of both nostalgia and the love letter to Sisko, although, strictly speaking we didn't learn anything new.

Also, I am sorry but didn't nobody get the basic materialistic idea of flying to the wormhole and asking Prophets if they could speak to Sisko?

However, in the end, Sam seems to be just inadequetelly programmed AI and her creators to be just uninteresting noncorporeal entities who are bossy for basicelly no reason except for creating drama that does not feel very dramatic because the direction is quite sloppy. Plus, it is hindered by the generic bar scenes and subplot that does not work very well.

However, I can forgive a lot of that after watching the touching dialogue with Jake.

Now we know what Cardassians are doing if they want to piss off Bajorans. Making Sisko Cartoons...

Oh my, is the usual suspect trotting out a tired complaint related to ageism again?

Huh? What are you talking about? Ive never done that before. If so link it. Im talking about Avery health. By the time he was 65 he looked very sick. Hes over a decade youngr than shatner and he looked older and more frail. Im stating what I saw. That isn't ageism. Again post the link since youre sitting here accusing me of. Trust me you won't because there isn't one. Theyll be no response from you because youre making it up. Smh.

This song seems to fit, before I finally put on the episode. Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'...

I liked this one a lot. The DS9/Sisko stuff was great naturally. But I’m glad they didn’t push it too far.

I guessed she was Dax the first time she said Benjamin instead of “Captain Sisko.” Even seemed like Newsome was channeling Jadzia when she said it.

The Jake cameo was well done…but damnit older Jake looks nothing like Tony Todd. “The Visitor” LIED. lol.

The only hinkey part of the B-plot with Ake and Kelric was the 2nd dinner scene. I actually like them as frenemies of a sort. They play well off each other.

There has to be more to The Doctor scolding SAM. That was too abrupt of an edit. Would love to see what was cut, if I’m correct that is.

The star crossed romance stuff is eye rolling but it’s to be expected with a show like this so I can roll with it.

9/10
