Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

This isn't the Kelvin timeline. ;)
I say that cuz this is clearly a spinoff from DSC. :shifty:
So is SNW. You'll note which kind of Klingons they feature there.
The only thing that would make it cheesier is if they were trying to form the Starfleet delta in the grass
I knew there was something off about this image!

Actually, I am genuinely surprised they didn't try to insert an arrowhead or three in there somehow.
wake me up when they change the humans.
I have just the rant prepared for when this heinous canon violation is committed. ;)

Dawson Trek. Stardate 90210

Looks more like something taken from The Vampire Diaries.

I'm actually stunlocked by the 90210 SFA poster, every time I think of it my brain clicks like an old mechanical hard drive. It has to be a joke, surely?

Not even saying this in a sneering "Kurtzman Trek sucks, this'll be shit" way; like, it has to be intended as a tongue-in-cheek pastiche of teen dramas of decades gone by, it's way too on-the-nose to be earnest. But then in all the pre-release material so far we've seen absolutely nothing to suggest that the show is going to be a genre parody in that way, so it has to be sincere... but there's just no way you could release that poster unironically, it's such a dead-on mimicry of a genre that mostly exists as a punchline nowadays.

More of an homage to 'Teen Dramas". And apparently we can't have that!!!
It's more that it's so peculiarly, unironically direct in evoking a long-gone genre of television. If the poster is intended as a jovial throwback to 1980s teen melodrama, you'd think there'd be some kind of Star Trek twist to showcase the series' selling point, and demonstrate that this will be a fresh sci-fi-tinged take on an old genre - have them all in the typical pose, but lying on a holodeck grid, or have one of them mid-beam out, or whatever.

But instead, it's literally a bunch of beautiful young people laying on some grass. The only thing that separates it from the decades-old posters it's evoking is the presence of a Klingon, but he's just posed in the same generic way as everyone else. They must have known the bemused reception it'd get.

As I said, leaning into the "complaints" and having fun with it.
