Starfleet Academy Official Trailer

A fair critique, especially regarding an insider putting their ass on the line for a small youtube channel.

That said, I looked into the podcast and found nothing to suggest they are liars. Not journalists by any stretch, just opinionated fans like the rest of us. With a channel. And probably some sources.

I looked into the Sony claims made by the podcast and found them to have merit; Sony did publicly express interest in Paramount, with formal bids that made headlines. The podcast also started talking about a stargate reboot in 2024, which were confirmed just recently to be in pre-production, with the reveal having indicated it was being planned 18 months ago.

I don't know the podcast well. I may have watched three or four of their videos. Its entirely possible this forum has experience with it giving bad info. But I couldn't find any.

I get the sentiment though. There are a lot of grifters with channels that claim "insider knowledge" that are full of shit.

Next time I'll start with "random youtuber says" so I don't trigger the forum police :p
A credible source has told me that Starfleet Academy has been greenlit for a third season, which will start filming this summer after Alex Kurtzman’s contract is renewed. Also, the cancellation of Strange New Worlds has been undone, with the show continuing under Goldsman as Star Trek: Year One. The Archer show has also supposedly been greenlit for at least two seasons, with filming set to begin in early 2027 at CBS Studios in Mississauga.

See? I can also make shit up.

Oh, I want to play too!

Don't forget Paramount committing to five full seasons of Section 31, and due to a contractual commitment with Michelle Yeoh are required to produce all five seasons regardless of ratings and critical reception.

And then there's the astonishing return of William Shatner as James T Kirk, done in response to fan requests and a desire to return to "true" Star Trek.

This is fun. Anyone else?

Sony's purchase of Paramount would've violated U.S. law. (Companies that are based outside of the United States are legally prohibited from owning American broadcast networks. Rupert Murdoch had to become a U.S. citizen in order to launch the FOX network back in the eighties.)

We have a dedicated thread for 'dubious sources'

It was Sony Pictures that showed interest, and they're an American company. They're a subsidiary of Sony Corporation of America, which is again an American company, but is in turn a subsidiary of Sony Japan.

If there was a legal issue, I don't think they would have bid on it. Unless they planned and challenging that law in court.

The term is "Zoomer" not "zoomie."
Only to boomies

"A “zoomie” refers to a member of Generation Z, typically those born between the late 1990s and early 2010s. The term often carries a tone of mild derision, highlighting perceived traits associated with this generation, such as hyperactivity, short attention spans, digital addiction, and a tendency toward online trends and fads. While sometimes used playfully, it can also underscore concerns about declining social skills, real-world engagement, and resilience among younger people."

“Our youth now love luxury, they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders, and they love to chatter instead of exercise. Children are now tyrants not servants of their household. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.” ~Socrates

It's always so weird that people who don't want things to appeal to Gen Z then mention 90210, a show that was on when I was a preteen (47 now). Kids today would not watch 90210.

Edit:
I just texted a young friend/classmate of mine and asked him what he thinks when I ask him about "90210". He said, "Sounds like a zip code."

Anecdotal to be sure, but pretty funny.

You're right, they wouldn't - but they use it as a meme reference. This is a screenshot of the comments under the starfleet academy official trailer on youtube. Notice anything?

Can't seem to upload an image, so here's the link to it:

People are strange. Haven't seen a single episode but already know what it's like.

Absurdity.

If it's a teen show why is that bad?

Anytime a show comes around that stars kids, people compare it to 90210 because it stars kids. It's never accurate and always tiresome.
I don't know any other show that has been 90210 memed as hard as the Starfleet Academy trailer was.

If it's a teen show why is that bad?

It's bad for Paramount because the memes are coming primarily from the same audience this show was apparently made for.

What memes and by who exactly? Roddo731 doesn't look like a "zoomie" to me. Okay that screen shot was pretty tiny, but he looked like somebody's dad or grandad in the avatar.

Yeah calling it "90210" is weak and obvious Low level trolling at best.
That's the point. Go to youtube. Find an official SA trailer without the comments turned off. Read them. Almost all the "engagement" is trolling.

That's the reaction Paramount is getting to their show, made for the same people writing all those comments.

The only question is: will it be what everyone already expects, or will it surprise?
