People are prejudging the show but just judging the trailers. The trailer was not very good. The first one was a little better but the second trailer was just bad.

The assumptions are off the rails. Superpowers, this isn't what a Academy series should be, these types of characters shouldn't act this way, and maligning of college students.
They started hiding dislikes a while back, but you can install a browser add-on to show them still.

SNW had a okay third season. Not as bad as people say. Though I admit it was a downgrade from season 1 and 2.
Yeah, Like we haven’t had “superhero” characters before. Spock with his Swiss Army knife Vulcan physiology. Odo the shapeshifter. Seven of Nine the cyborg. Then you have TNG’s Fantastic Four: Troi, Data, Worf and La Forge.
Yes but those fans only want to see Picard on the Enterprise bridge and nothing, NOTHING else will do.
The point of the show is to bring in new fans, if they wanted to appease the dwindling 40+ group they'd have done Legacy.

My understanding from the limited nature of the pre-show infodump is that she's not only a hologram, but from a "race" with a name (Kasquian) which seems to imply that she's from an entire group of sentient holograms, not a construct.
As an aside, I wish that Trek would stop having holograms and/or shapeshifters, because they're never willing to commit to the story implications due to the VFX costs.
- Odo's shapeshifting looked pretty bad with mid 90s VFX, and they stopped having him shapeshift much at all after the first few seasons (even making him a solid for awhile).
- The Doctor as a hologram could have (presumably) changed his appearance whenever he wanted, but did not, even though it would've been a big advantage once they had the mobile emitter (think of the subterfuge he could get into)!
- Section 31 had a shapeshifter who never used their special powers once in the movie.
Count me in as another person who wants both. And I'm tired of the "It's either this or that!" routine some people have been pulling on here for years now about it.
The point of the show is that it's something Alex Kurtzman really wanted to do. As far as it bringing in new fans, I think we both know that it's not going to. Streaming Trek isn't high profile. It's not Tulsa King or 1923, so let's not kid ourselves.
If they want a bigger audience for Star Trek, they'll have to make a new cinematic movie, or they'll have to reach out beyond Paramount+.
Otherwise, it doesn't matter if it's Legacy or Starfleet Academy or Strange New Worlds. It's still going to be the same dwindling audience, no matter what. Fortunately for me, how big the audience is doesn't factor into whether or not I watch or enjoy a show. Otherwise, I wouldn't have liked DS9, VOY, DSC or PIC.
Hard disagree. The morphing effects for Odo mostly looked pretty great.
Huh? Quasi is shown to assume other people’s appearance twice in the movie. Plus, there’s that scene where he turns himself into this tentacle being in that tunnel chase scene.
Well, the idea could be that she doesn’t have any “powers”. Kasquian holographic lifeforms could be bound to one appearance only.
Surely P+ can walk and chew gum at the same time.
Kirk, Spock, and Co. are a proven draw.
I don't think they're going to do Year One (Paramount Pictures is going to want the TOS lineup for themselves).
This isn't the results from a fan message board though. These are results from YouTube. For sure, some comments are from Star Trek fans, but not all.
Companies use the likes/Dislikes and number of views to gauge audience interest.
These results are showing Dislikes at 75%, which is a marginal improvement on what S31 was polling.

It's because the show is set in Discovery's alternate future timeline.
Because of that instead of starting from a neutral point of judgement the show is starting at a negative point for a lot of people. And those negative points are being reinforced by the fact that the makeup looks plasticy, the characters look to be imported from a CW teen drama, and the story seems to be generic sci-fi instead of "star trek".
So many people seem to forget that Kurtzman is on the record directly stating why he pushed through Academy over anything else.

The make up looks fine for Star Trek.
Starting from a negative place sounds like a terrible way to live.
Judging a spinoff by the quality of the show it was spun off from is normal and not indicative of the way people judge everything else in their lives.
