People are prejudging the show but just judging the trailers. The trailer was not very good. The first one was a little better but the second trailer was just bad.
Bullshit.People are prejudging the show but just judging the trailers. The trailer was not very good. The first one was a little better but the second trailer was just bad.
They started hiding dislikes a while back, but you can install a browser add-on to show them still.Where are you getting the dislike figure? All I see is 5.6K likes
Star Trek has gone off the rails lately. The YouTube comments are brutal - almost none of them positive.

This is pretty much how Section31 was panning out.
Not a good omen.
Yeah, Like we haven’t had “superhero” characters before. Spock with his Swiss Army knife Vulcan physiology. Odo the shapeshifter. Seven of Nine the cyborg. Then you have TNG’s Fantastic Four: Troi, Data, Worf and La Forge.I have a bad feeling they are going to write that one girl character like she is a superhero. They basically gave her a superpower. The MCU effect on Trek I suppose. I mean the character arcs pretty much write themselves.
Yes but those fans only want to see Picard on the Enterprise bridge and nothing, NOTHING else will do.The YouTube comments are brutal - almost none of them positive.

The point of the show is to bring in new fans, if they wanted to appease the dwindling 40+ group they'd have done Legacy.
I am curious if they are going to make it clear she is self aware or will she be treated like a standard hologram at first. We did see a medical hologram on "Discovery" yet I got the impression he was still seen as a piece of tech and not a real person so it seems they must still be making non-self aware holograms even this far in the future. Only now they are in world were some like The Doctor are fully accepted a real people with self awareness,
Count me in as another person who wants both. And I'm tired of the "It's either this or that!" routine some people have been pulling on here for years now about it.I must be in the narrow venn diagram area that wants to see both
The point of the show is that it's something Alex Kurtzman really wanted to do. As far as it bringing in new fans, I think we both know that it's not going to. Streaming Trek isn't high profile. It's not Tulsa King or 1923, so let's not kid ourselves. The point of the show is to bring in new fans
Hard disagree. The morphing effects for Odo mostly looked pretty great.Odo's shapeshifting looked pretty bad with mid 90s VFX
Huh? Quasi is shown to assume other people’s appearance twice in the movie. Plus, there’s that scene where he turns himself into this tentacle being in that tunnel chase scene.Section 31 had a shapeshifter who never used their special powers once in the movie.
Well, the idea could be that she doesn’t have any “powers”. Kasquian holographic lifeforms could be bound to one appearance only.Because of this, my concern with SAM is they won't actually use her "powers"

If they want a bigger audience for Star Trek, they'll have to make a new cinematic movie, or they'll have to reach out beyond Paramount+.
This isn't the results from a fan message board though. These are results from YouTube. For sure, some comments are from Star Trek fans, but not all.Yes but those fans only want to see Picard on the Enterprise bridge and nothing, NOTHING else will do.

It's because the show is set in Discovery's alternate future timeline.I'll own my bias in that I have wanted an Academy for a long time, but I am completely flabbergasted at the categorical rejection of this series out of hand. It has enough meat to be enjoyable, while leaving much open. It feels organic to the world of Star Trek, with people joining from various backgrounds.
What else is needed?
So many people seem to forget that Kurtzman is on the record directly stating why he pushed through Academy over anything else. The point of the show is that it's something Alex Kurtzman really wanted to do. Well, those posting about CW shows must have watched more than I.Because of that instead of starting from a neutral point of judgement the show is starting at a negative point for a lot of people. And those negative points are being reinforced by the fact that the makeup looks plasticy, the characters look to be imported from a CW teen drama, and the story seems to be generic sci-fi instead of "star trek".
Judging a spinoff by the quality of the show it was spun off from is normal and not indicative of the way people judge everything else in their lives.Starting from a negative place sounds like a terrible way to live.
Afro puffs are a thing.Sam's hair blobs make me think "Mickey Mouse" whenever I see her - preparing for a Disney merger?![]()
Mileage will vary.Judging a spinoff by the quality of the show it was spun off from is normal and not indicative of the way people judge everything else in their lives.
