Does anyone think Star Trek Legacy will ever happen?

It won't. We've got SFA coming up, and the people behind SNW have already expressed interest in making a Year One show, Kirk's first year in command of the Enterprise.

Year One has a slightly higher chance only because the showrunners are pushing for it while the sets are still standing and they’re still in production on SNW.

Legacy was screwed because the sets had already been demo’d and everyone had already dispersed in the year between filming and release of PIC season 3.

I think that the problem is that the title ‘Legacy’ was hijacked. Star Trek has a legacy, and a true continuation of Star Trek would be a legacy series. So when Terry called his potential 25th century continuation Star Trek: Legacy, he stole the Trek trump card for that concept. Especially when he changed the name of the USS Titan last minute to Enterprise in order to canonise his show concept, meaning that any continuation of Star Treks ‘legacy’ would likely have to follow the format as laid out at the end of Picard season 3. This format was not appealing to some of TPTB who make these decisions, therefore Terry Trek was canned as was a 25th century continuation of Star Trek, for now at least…. IMHO.

It could still happen, if the SNW sets are reused and it’s stated that the Ent-G got a refit. Several years will have passed, after all, so it’s possible.

Skydance could get a lot of milage out of both the SFA and SNW sets. I don’t think a Section 31 followup, or a Worf and Raffi six-episode miniseries set in the Klingon Empire would have much trouble, for example, if they are redressed.

Not to mention all the Long Treks that could be done - from Captain April, to an SNW movie, to an Empress Sato & the USS Defiant encountering a temporally displaced Captain Killy, to some Disco/SFA crossover. Shows and movies can be made that are not the Year One pitch.

The bigger question is does Skydance want to keep the sets, or do they want to build something else, even if it costs more money to do?

No.

It’s not gonna happen and frankly it was never gonna happen. At least as a 10 episode a season series.

It was a Hail Mary pitch from Matalas. Just like it seems “Kirk Year One” being pitched by Kurtzman is.

Exactly. If CBS wanted Year One, they would have just kept producing SNW.

They could also use the SNW sets for a live action Starbase 80 show.

They "could" do all sorts of things. But the current Trek landscape seems to be shrinking rather than expanding. So far we only have two officially in-production shows for the next two years, down from the five that we had in 2022.

That doesn't mean there's not more coming of course, but it helps support the dim view of something like Legacy happening.

If the SNW sets aren't used for anything else, they'd probably end being absorbed into SFA. Aesthetically, they're not too dissimilar to each other, and it wouldn't be the first time sets have found their way to the 32nd century.

But, I can't actually picture a scenario where there wouldn't be any money for a brand new show, with brand new sets. Something would have to come along, eventually.
