Well, since the comics have nothing to do with the production of the show, then technically there's no reason for them not to continue, unless there's a mandate that they stop once the show is over.
I've had a look at previous comic book eras, and it seems like they come and go without any connection to what's going on with the TV series. Plus the gaps have usually been short, and IDW have been publishing them for so long I'm not sure they even know how to quit at this point.
They'll keep everything going for as long as it is profitable. There was a huge universe of novels after Voyager and DS9 ended. But who knows? Book sales are way down (we get a couple of novels a year and not one a month anymore) and Trek's license is quite expensive and the cost has killed comic series' in the past (see: SNW's comic book predecessor Early Voyages, which ended on a cliffhanger)
There was a time when all there was were a TOS movie every two years. DC pumped out Trek comics around those movies, filling up the two-year gaps between them, and some of those were the best long-running arcs, IMO.
