Season 4 First Look

OH MY GOD, THEY'RE HAVING FUN!
This certainly isn't the Star Trek I grew up on where everyone is stiff and formal and has a stick shoved so far up their ass they legally qualify as a tree.

;)

I wish it wasn't so obvious that they are following the Buffyverse ideas though. First the musical, then the puppet episode. I kind if wish they had their own ideas.

I'm not sure why the eyeroll. I'm looking forward to the episode and hope it's a ton of fun as the clip portrayed. I just can't help but think about Buffy and Angel and how they first did the musical "Once More, With Feeling" and then Angel did Smile Time which turned Angel into a Puppet. It just feels a little too on the nose for me. That doesn't mean I'm going to hate it. In fact, I hope it's just as fun and weird as Smile Time was. And if you have not seen Smile Time, I would recommend it because its one of the wackiest episodes of anything sci fi I have ever seen.

It feels like the writers are just watching Buffy and Angel and just stealing ideas from there.

If they want to be fancy why not show him on the ACTUAL TOS bridge?

Well it's certainly unique Star Trek.

I mean I liked the musical episode, and yeah Those Old Scientists was okay, although not one of my favorites; but yeah this one is definitely out there.

I'll watch it but even I have to say maybe this one's going a bit too far even for me.

The gimmick SNW's really run the gamut. You have incredible all-franchise highs like "Subspace Rhapsody", and self-indulgent trash like "The Elysian Kingdom", truly one of the worst Trek episodes ever produced.

I'll be curious if they pull it off. It's their riskiest idea yet and the possibility of another "Elysian"-level failure seems high, but that's kind of the thrill of it.

"Rhapsody" was also high-risk, and the only way that could have turned out better is if they'd acknowledged that stiff, tuneless Paul Wesley cannot sing or dance (or act effectively on any level, but that's another story) and hadn't tried to make him.

The Buffyverse did not create musicals or puppet episodes, plenty of other shows have done both concepts, both before and after Buffy and Angel did their respective episodes. And while Buffy's musical is held as the gold standard by many of what a musical episode of a show can be, the puppet episode of Angel (which I did enjoy) isn't really a particularly memorable episode overall nor does it have the same kind of pop culture footprint Buffy's musical has.
And Elysian wouldn't even rank as low as that series' bottom twenty.
Quite so. While The Elaysian Kingdon might be my least favorite SNW episode though it's a toss up between that and Among the Lotus Eaters. Regardless, there are much worse episodes of TOS than those two, to say nothing of the Berman era shows.

And let's not forget the episode coming up with an alternate Kirk who is an actor on a sci-fi show similar to Star Trek. They stole that from supernatural.
