Janeway with the big push-and-pull over the style, even to the point of re-shooting scenes for the pilot (and that was after they already had to do re-shoots to replace Janeway.)

We knew Hemmer was leaving.

It has nothing to do with them leaving. It has to do with the character’s fate not being predetermined ahead of time.

Pike and M’Benga still have to get to TOS, and for that reason alone, they’ll never be in any serious peril over the course of the show. We all know that. Hemmer never had that predetermined outcome, allowing him to be in perilous situations. He was just written off of SNW sooner than expected.

I'm not so sure that the rejection of Ortegas' plan was so wrong - they had limited evidence of Klingon presence on the planet, no idea that said Klingons were tracking M'Benga, and Pike and Chin-Riley would have had to take the fall if their presence was leaked.

I think viewers sometimes forget that the characters often don't have the information that we as the audience do.

Some pretty good nice character moments between Pike and M'Benga. I do enjoy the Joseph centered episodes although this one was sort of split between he and Ortegas. It's nice that she is getting some decent scenes to sink her teeth into. I'd give it a 9 but I'm zombied out in general.

I appreciated M'Benga reminding Pike that he was calling actual people who'd suffered horrible misfortune "zombies."
