Alex Kurtzman on streaming movies and the future of Trek

You will watch your space Hitler redemption arc and subsequent movie you will like it.
You know what would really teach me a lesson, a trilogy of Georgiou movies at least, possibly even leading into some sort of spinoff series. It is absolutely what I deserve.

Who would ever have thought setting your show on a Starfleet ship with the usual Star Trek tropes, with a crew of likeable new characters who work together and rousing music would have people insist it feels like Star Trek.

You will watch your space Hitler redemption arc and subsequent movie you will like it.
Can I have my space Hitler with green skin, a bodysuit, and a pilot episode that makes space Hitler an entirely different but similar looking person so we can have a cheaper actress who we can trap in a good contract?

Also the only thing that'll feel like Trek soon is the Risa sitcom because we're definitely going to hit levels of pleasure planet not thought possible.

This is not just a problem with Section 31. This is a long-standing problem with NuTrek.
Discovery season 1: Mass Effect, Tardigrade game.
Picard season 1: Mass Effect 3
Discovery season 4: Arrival, StarCraft.
Speaking as a Mass Effect fan, these comparisons are reaching.

There are many themes from Mass Effect in Picard season 1.

Elements from Mass Effect in Discovery are mostly stylistic.

Extra-galactic AIs (Lovecraftian / Eldritch robotic tentacle AIs) that travel through a special anomaly/portal to the galaxy to wipe out all advanced organic live. Narrative climax: Destruction of the means to establish a portal.

Vision of extra-galactic AIs that wipe out all advanced organic live: Vision Prothean Beacon - Admonition

The visions of extra-galactic AIs that wipe out all advanced organic live can't be interpreted correctly and the protagonists need to find a way to fix that: Cipher - Vulcan/Android mind meld

The Admonition voice over even sounded the same as the Catalyst kid in Mass Effect.

Are you serious? A round bridge is ripping off Mass Effect???? Bro, do you even Star Trek?

A tall spindly alien? Bro, do you even SciFi?

Blue and gold uniforms? :lol:

Better case for Beyond than DISCO for those uniforms.

Yellow glowing graphics? :lol::lol:

Neony Space Vegas?? :lol::lol::lol:

Grey skinned alien? :lol::lol::lol::lol:

Did you start watching science fiction yesterday? :guffaw:

Yeah, with the exception of extra-galactic space tentacle AI's, those are really reaching.

Mass Effect tended to be based off '70s and '80s science fiction artwork, especially the work of Syd Mead. That Picard, or any sci-fi, took inspiration from these works is hardly a rarity. Hell, half the sci-fi produced in the last 40 years looks like Blade Runner. Are they all rip offs?

Both. Star Trek is a big tent concept. It contains multitudes. It should not be put in a cage of preconceptions and restrictions. It you think “Star Trek” is about pretty SFX of ships in space and not character driven drama, then I would say you don’t know Star Trek.

"Both".

Hahaha. Thanks.

So... strange New Worlds?

And Season 3 has a Federation ending threat, surprise family member of a main character, and a character who was a jerk for no reason.

We clearly watched different seasons.

I like how you have subtly changed "universe ending threat" and "Federation ending threat" acting like it's the same.

The attempt at gatekeeping is strong in this thread.

What are you talking about? I love space Hitler in charge of space CIA. I love vanity projects to show an actress can sing. This is why I and many others got into Star Trek in the first place. The idea that things are bad and can NEVER get better without mass murder is a great message.

Roddenberry would be proud of the dimeless, pro-imperialist shows and movies being produced.

You and your ilk deserve Section 31.
Cant answer? Seems a simple question. What is the problem with the Picard scene?

"My ilk" are fans of Star Trek. My own fandom goes back to 1966. Been with it through all the highs and lows.

Using Section 31 as some sort of gotcha is laughable. I gave it a very charitable "2". My jam is Strange New Worlds and taking down self-appointed gatekeepers.

I want you to put the two scenes side by side, show it to a person and ask them which one is from Star Trek.

So, I'm going to give you a suggestion: Realize that Star Trek is not only what YOU want. As others have said, Trek is a big tent. I thought Section 31 wasn't great. I didn't hate it as much as some but there certainly wasn't enough to get me to want to watch it again, maybe ever. But there is a lot of Star Trek since Kurtzman took over that I do enjoy. Does that make me less of a Star Trek fan than you? NO. It makes me a different Star Trek fan than you. Get over yourself. Get over your opinion. Life will be a lot easier if you don't take yourself so damned seriously.

Star Trek is not a big tent. It has a formula it followed for decades to great success.

There shouldn't be room for the nonsense the Transformers guy has brought and continues to bring. There used to be standards, people called out the pro-Iraq War nonsense with Enterprise when Braga was auditioning for 24 and stopped watching, it should continue to be that way.
