Spoilers The Acolyte

I kind of expected this to happen, Disney is all going to pretend this series doesn't exist after the rating failure. Wonder if Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will suffer the same fate.

It is? Haven't heard that.

Seriously, we can't even watch it before the people gripe?

<thinks back to every upcoming series / movie discussed here over the last 25 years>

Ahh ... nope!

Of course, people griping about people griping is also a long-standing tradition.

As for The Acolyte - not enough people watched (I didn't). Simple as that. If it had done gangbusters, S2 would've likely already been announced. Perhaps it would've had a slight shot a couple of years back, but the economics have shifted dramatically since.

Do we know if they had made any merch for it? I never saw any, but I hadn't really looked at much Star Wars merch lately.
I was just looking through the online Disney Store, and there's no Acolyte merch on there, but of all the shows, the only ones that have merch on there are Ahsoka, Clone Wars, The Mandalorian Young Jedi Adventures and one LEGO set for Skeleton Crew.

Did you not see the post you were replying to?

Disney has allegedly removed all Acolyte merch from the Disney Store.
I can't confirm, because I never visted the site when/if it existed.

The upcoming 2025 Black series Acolyte figures will be peg warming Walmart shelves before they're even released

1)interspecies lesbian relationship
2)alien with nonbinary pronouns
3)other than that i have no idea, unless having a diverse cast counts as identity politics

As an Asian myself, I know how bigoted some members of our culture can be, so it's hilarious that racist haters who have issues with item 3 (presumably they don't want the Asian actors in the show) don't realize they're shunning potential allies (Asian bigoted viewers) for items 1 and 2 in their bigotry. I guess "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" doesn't apply.

It's like how the racist regime in WW2 Germany allied with the WW2 Japanese army and you know they probably would have turned on each other if they won.

What 'identity politics' were in The Acolyte?
There was the two Mothers, who were presumably a lesbian couple although it was left a little vague, there was a wise old Jedi Master who fell in love with a preteen girl and justified killing her mothers on the basis that "she was meant to be my apprentice"; there was a murderous Sith Lord, and there were the Force Twins that were conceived using the Force [Well].

And a bunch of arrogant Jedi Masters

Some of the online complaints about this show make no sense to me. One pseudonymous twitter person said "it had no story". Like... what? Give me a break. Just say you didn't like the story, now was that so hard? It's like all the times in the past when people said that a movie had no plot. The problem is that pretty much any time someone says that about a movie, the movie did in fact have a plot. There are movies that literally have no plot, I've seen some of them! But those movies are never cited by the "it had no plot" types.

It sometimes feels as if what really bothers certain people about Acolyte is something that they absolutely cannot say out loud and perhaps cannot even allow themselves to admit they're even thinking. But that energy has to come out somehow, so they blurt out absurdities.

It does feel that way sometimes. I think the other side of it is the lack of engagement with the story and they just don't follow along the characters.

I did my second rewatch just to see what stood out. I saw a lot of comments of "people change motivations for no reason!"

Well, what I saw on screen was that they had reasons, but they were more than just what was spoken. Everything for Osha and Mae was predicated on the idea that the Jedi were either saviors or villains, and their role in the loss of their family. That's the point of view, and suddenly that view is completely upended as they both find out the other is alive. Everything is driven by that desire to be together again, and finding out some very painful truths.

Sol is crushed by his immense guilt as he finds out that the lies he's been telling are coming back to haunt him in the worst possible way.

All of this as other Jedi masters try to navigate the difficulty of hanging someone hunting Jedi, and the mistrust that is coming from the Senate.

You have all these different actors trying to manage and consolidate power, while others are trying to do the right thing, and still others are struggling with harsh truths.

I'm sorry of the producer's comments around it make people annoyed or whatever "identity politics" are being added in but I just don't see it as coming through in the story. And, in this instance, the story is more important.

There are still three Vintage Collection figures about to hit and several more pipelined for 2025. And a bunch of 6" Black Series figures already out or coming.
Tragically, The Stranger and Jecki aren't among the announced figures. And now the odds of getting them have obviously plummeted and those are easily the ones most in demand.
