Spoilers The Acolyte

In the show itself, Qimir wasn't explicitly identified as a Sith (though the Jedi who fought him no doubt thought of him that way, correct or not).

I'd imagine that not everyone touching or even using the dark side of the force has to be or become a Sith by definition; there could be "free-lancers" who don't feel bound by Sith rules anymore than by Jedi customs and laws.

A pity about the probable cancellation, a season 2 had potential.

Season 1 had a decent overall plot, I liked Qimir and the portrayal of Jedi as human (good but fallible) and the show did avoid a total good-vs-bad narrative (a bit of grey is a nice change of pace for Star Wars IMO). OTOH, the execution was sometimes clunky, especially the twin's motives and change of hearts did not always seem very natural. Not a fan of the entire witches things either (goes for Ahsoka as well). The fights in it were very good though, and it's a long time ago since a laser sword really seemed as threatening as in the original trilogy, with the slaughter in episode 5. Sol was a kick-ass Jedi to be able to defeat Qimir.

I do like those more mysterious antagonists like Qimir and Baylan though. Hope we at least see the story for the latter play out.

“I have no name. But a Jedi like you might call me… Sith.”

So he stops short of identifying as a Sith. But on the other hand, there is also:

"I don’t make the rules. The Jedi do. And the Jedi say I can’t exist."

I suppose the Jedi, of this period, think dimly of any dark force user, regardless of how they call or organise themselves?

I imagine the Jedi Order's treatment of Force cults like the one on Brendok is a consequence of whatever war that led to the formation of the Republic a thousand years earlier. In Revenge of the Sith, Mace Windu said, "The oppression of the Sith will never return!" This leads me to think that the galaxy was ruled by the Sith in the years prior to the Republic. (I don't really remember or care what Legends says on the matter, since it will probably be overwritten by the new continuity eventually.) So when the Sith were finally defeated and the Republic came into being, I'm thinking the Jedi in those early years were pretty zealous in their pursuit of Sith remnants and stamping out both them and any other dark side practitioners they came across, too, to ensure that they could never threaten galactic peace again--a sort of reverse of the Jedi Purge during the Imperial era. And then as the centuries passed perhaps this became twisted into them viewing any non-Jedi dogma as being a threat, dark side or not.

Canon hasn't shown the Sith at their height in anything other than flashbacks or ghosts etc. Ironically Qui-Gon declaring that Maul was a Sith Lord in TPM had more meaning to 1999 viewers (where Exar Kun, Naga Sadow, and Ulic Qel-Droma were considered canon Sith at the time and a point of reference) than Qimir's declaration does now, because we don't have any depiction in works of new canon Sith Lords before the movies.

Disney has allegedly removed all Acolyte merch from the Disney Store.
I can't confirm, because I never visted the site when/if it existed.

Well, according to ANH Kenobi, the Republic is a thousand generations old... so I guess you got the Old Old Republic and the New Old Republic?

Indeed. Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing a movie or show set in that time period, eventually.

Do we know if they had made any merch for it? I never saw any, but I hadn't really looked at much Star Wars merch lately.
I was just looking through the online Disney Store, and there's no Acolyte merch on there, but of all the shows, the only ones that have merch on there are Ahsoka, Clone Wars, The Mandalorian Young Jedi Adventures and one LEGO set for Skeleton Crew.
