I wish they had just used Cartwright or stone instead of breaking canon. No problem with the character, the actor or his role.... Just his name.

I left it out of my wish list of characters to avoid having this argument again lol.

But it was shown and visually represented. That trumps dialogue, and I never said it would be important, just that it was established. Using a different pre-existing character would have changed absolutely nothing about the stories or the show.

Well no, dialogue in SNW points to him being the previous captain of the Enterprise before Pike.

I'm just thankful Robert April is now on a live action show. They didn't need to do that. And there certainly was no obligation to be consistent with a 1970s cartoon which has already been contradicted plenty of times in the franchise.

Characters get recast. There were three Ziyals on DS9. Two Owen Parises on VOY. Two Boks on TNG. And four Alexanders on TNG/DS9. Not to mention the two Saaviks,
