Deneva was along one of the Federation's busiest supply and trade routes so I imagine there was often a starship, science vessel or cargo freighter in orbit there to help any colonists who require extensive medical treatments and lots of supplies that can't be synthesized on-site.

It looked pretty well developed. So I imagine it was self-sufficient.

With all the research done there at least one of those big buildings probably had food as well as other matter synthesizers to create needed scientiifc tools and spare parts to fix their equipment.

Probably closer to colonial New York than Boonesborough

Which sounds like Kirk's description of the mission at the beginning of the un-aired version of Where No Man Has Gone Before.

I had no idea there was an unaired version! I learned something new today.

I saw it at a college presentation in the mid 80s. It's also on the blu rays.
Yeah it was part of the Gene Roddenberry Star Trek Blooper Reel show that made the rounds to various Colleges back in the 1980s, *-and the tickets were quite expensive back then-*.

I also recall that they had a completely different opening credits, as well as Quinn Martin style bumpers for each Act of the episode to be shown after a commercial break- but this was only for Where No Man Had Gone Before.

I too remember seeing all that when I attended such a show in College Circa 1984.

Really?
A friend and I saw him at Union College here in Schenectady for $15 dollars back in 1983.

I still have a program from the event with his signature on it in a box here somewhere.

Yeah, Gene wasn't at the thing I went to (although I had a lovely chat with Majel a few weeks before TNG came out, mostly about golf). I don't remember what the premise of the event was other than "Star Trek stuff!"

I'm kind of surprised there was never any golf in Star Trek considering how much there was of Gene's other (ahem) passions.

Yep, that's what I paid in 1984. That said, $15 IN 1983 = about $46 in 2023 adjusted for inflation. :)

Except even back then $15 wasn't that big a deal to meet him.

And today it's a Hell of a lot more than $46 bucks to meet & greet any of the Trek actors.
Well I still remember at the show I went to, there wasn't a lot of meeting him going on. As I recall he helped them thread the 16mm film into the projector, introduce himself and the fact that it was going to be a reel of bloopers and some other Star Trek related footage from the first and second Pilot, and then he left the room to go out and smoke.

I think there were some in the group I was with that was hoping for a short Q&A afterwards, but someone just went out and got him, and he came back in and picked up the reel of film and left.
