No the entire make up was changed as were certain facts about the species.
Normally I would post a picture showing the completely different makeup designs. But, let's face it. That would be a waste of time and effort.
The Cardassians were also originally a weak race that couldn’t stop a single Federation ship rampaging through their territory. Then they got an upgrade to a major power when DS9 needed them to be an actual threat.

I saw the episode I already know the changes. It wasn't nearly as glaring as if they make a humanoid reptile look like a xenomorph from the alien movies.

Man, I really hope this episode doesn’t end on a cliffhanger. I mean, I know certain characters have unbeatable plot armor but still. Having to wait 2+ years for a resolution would suuuccckkk

Yeah I think it's a two parter just like last season was a cliffhanger. Yeah going to be more than a year wait to see the resolution to this gorn storyline.

I know we're all pretty sure Batel is in the crosshairs, but does anyone think we might lose Pelia?

No. Batel is the one Pike will have to sacrifice for the mission. Then we'll see him turn into the Jeffrey Hunter version for a while -- brooding, self-doubtful, and angry.

as far as Arena goes…the only part that is a bit hinkey is that Spock scans them on the planet and identifies them as some kind of reptile. I would think all the Gorn share enough genetic info that the tricorder would tell him “hey, these guys could be Gorn. You know those jerks that killed Hemmer”.
He may have been distracted at the time, remembering what Boimler had said about how current gen tricorders can explode ;)

I dunno, this stuff with the Gorn may be the biggest violation of all of TOS canon. They've introduced them years early, retconned their appearance, and their space has even been charted well enough to show up on ship's charts. There is no way Kirk isn't aware of these guys now!

Just like we didn't need Jess Bush to be Chapel or Babs to be M'Benga, we didn't need these xenomorph wannabes to be the Gorn. Why not just name them something different?

Oh well, gotta go with it now. [Drill Instructor Knife Hand] Hit it! [/D.I.K.H.]

Time traveling Romulan, baby. TTR.
As it stands at present, adult Gorn still have the same physiology - see Lorca's ready room in Discovery.

Means nothing. On that show, Klingons look nothing like KIingons in the rest of the franchise, and SNW returned to the more familiar designs while directly acknowledging the new Klingons on STD. So there's no real reason to assume that any visual element of the series pertains directly to what would be done on another Trek series.
