Do TV shows like SNW use mocap? Can they afford mocap? A mocap Gorn could be good.

From what I can tell, the SNW Gorn seem to move far quicker than a human can, so I would guess that mocap would have a fairly limited use compared to, say, Golum. They're intelligent creatures, though, so mocap might be a nice way of creating a more nuanced animation during a slower scene where they aren't rampaging everywhere.

I'm just blindly speculating of course, I've no idea how expensive mocap might be.

I just take it as the SNW version of the Gorn are a different species of Gorn. Same with the ENT version.

We do see TOS Gorn on Lower Decks (Gorn Wedding!!!!) so man in suit or not we know that Gorn species makes it to the 24th Century.

as far as Arena goes…the only part that is a bit hinkey is that Spock scans them on the planet and identifies them as some kind of reptile. I would think all the Gorn share enough genetic info that the tricorder would tell him “hey, these guys could be Gorn. You know those jerks that killed Hemmer”.

In TOS S1 Arena, the Gorn on Cetus III were jamming and using EW, so all Spock could say was that they were not warm blooded or Human. Also remember that the Gorn managed to lock on to his Tricorder and create a feedback loop that caused it to explode. Again they did seem to have some in depth knowledge of Federation technology.

In the 2013 Kelvinverse video game, Kirk fights a Gorn champion in an actual arena.

But there are multiple classes of Gorn in the game:

* Brute
* Champion
* Commander
* Female (part of the Armada)
* Guardian
* Henchman
* Initiate
* Priest
* Rusher
* Scout
* Sentinel
* Soldier
* Warrior

Given what we've seen and La'an's breathless exhortations about how the Gorn hunt and don't give up, one has to wonder why the Gorn flee the Enterprise after leveling Cestus III in Arena. Just sayin'. :rolleyes:

Drawing them to an ambush point. New leadership. Metron influence.

I find the cannonistas so tiring. And 90% of the time the thing they are so upset about isn't really even a direct contradiction/violation.

Yeah, it is kind of odd that they don't know about Gorn space in TOS, but do in SNW. Maybe this episode will give a hint as to why that is? Watch and find out before getting one's panties in a bunch about it. Getting uoset about an episode BEFORE IT AIRS is so silly.

And I have zero issues with retconing the look of any species, especially the techno/budget inhibited TOS. Guys in rubber suits, Klingons with painted faces, and computers running on 3.5 inch floppy discs is all good riddance. And make no sense in 2023.

I'd be totally fine with it if these SNW quadruped "Gornlings" are at their juvenile stage in their lifecycle, and they morph into something similar to like either this, or the ENT Gorn, or the Star Trek Online Gorn, or any combination of them.

I imagine they need to design, build, and operate starships, so an evolved form would make sense IMO, as I feel these young ones doing those things would be a stretch.
