When was it stated that Ortegas is of the LGBTQ+ community?

To my knowledge, Melissa Navia is not. I was under the impression that her character was. I could be mistaken about that.
That's correct, she is not.
Nothing about her sexuality has been stated one way or the other. She may yet be reveled to be LGBTQ+, and if so, fine. But as of this moment, there's no indication she is. Granted, there's no indication she isn't either, but that does not automatically mean she is.
Let's hope not.

The Rigel VII episode.
Great. This only reinforces my point that she hasn’t had any character development, since the one attribute I thought she had, she hadn’t.
Based on this it looks like a piloting plot for her on the ship but still doing some fancy flying work.
Which is fine. I like her flying antics better than most other antics on a ship.
I assume Una will be in command. They would make an interesting pairing. Not sure Una would go for Erika's quips like Pike does.
And the Trailer mentioned 'Kaylars'; which was the primitive warrior Pike and Vina fought in The Cage / The Menagerie

makes me wonder if we're going to see flashbacks to the first mission that took place prior to the cage.
I have empathy for Lana now as usually I can see through people who put on such a hard front that isn’t really that hard. Good job writers for giving real reasons why she puts the on a tough mask like that. I like what they have done with her character more than what they are doing with the nurse Chapel who they want to show that she is Starfleet tough. I wish they would be more subtle about that.
I look forward to the day when we don't give a shit either way.
