What time travel ban?
In the 32nd century Admiral Vance notes that time travel is forbidden and unlawful due to the destructive nature of the Temporal Wars.

Obviously that does not apply in prior times.
La'an: You should be careful around her, she seems the vengeful type, as in the type who'd keep a kid from his father after a bad breakup.
Marcus just asked him to stay away and Kirk respected her wishes.

Time is relative.

Plus, they had to work around Anson Mount. What's a quick, cheap way to do that? Time travel another character to modern day. Plus they get to stop the Eugenics war complaints and have an excuse for other canon changes as they like.
The ban is post 31st Century.

Time Travel is an omnipresent binary.

Either it's allowed forever or it's disallowed forever.

Due to the nature of Time Travel, that's the only way it can work, because the people in the past and future won't care if people in the present try to say "Well you can't do that it's illegal!" They'll just do it anyways and the people in the present won't have any way to stop them.

At which point the people in the present cease to exist because they gave up their Time Travel technology which is needed to protect them from actions taken by people in the past/future.

The ban isn't in effect until the 31st century.
Yea... I mean the ban has already happened. Every bit of time travel happening before the ban went into effect in the 31st has already happened. Just that the viewer hasn't witnessed it yet on screen (or heard about it) every time travel that occurred before the ban went into effect.

It will be up to the time travel agencies that exist before the 31st Century to stop them

I'm adding it to my headcanon that the reason that women are so much more assertive in SNW than the same women were in TOS is that if the Eugenics War happened in 1992, it would have frozen the advancement of women's rights for a couple centuries, so when it happened much later, the effect is women were far more respected in leadership roles.

That means in this timeline, Turnabout Intruder probably never happened!

That assumes women's rights go on a linear upward path of progression, when in reality women's rights also go backwards. For example despite his other misdeeds, I've read that Iraqi women had more equal rights under Saddam Hussein's reign than afterwards, when religious extremists got more power and restricted women's rights. The same is going on right now in Afghanistan.

EDIT: Also America, due to the Supreme Court etc.

Even within Trek itself, in the 23rd century Klingon women L'Rell and Azetbur can be chancellor, and suddenly in 24th century TNG they can't (thus Lursa and B'etor trying to make Toral chancellor instead of one of them just going for the office herself)

Cringed at the "What if you had to let Hitler live to save the world?" story. A teenager's idea of a morally complex quandary.

Seriously, can you imagine if Laan had to comb her fingers through ickle Hitler's black hair and remark "You're just a little boy" while staring into his soulful dark eyes, then giving a supportive "you're right where you need to be" before stepping out?

Also, of course, the US right now

Then the ban was overturned.

It's just people in the 31st century being whiny little babies and demanding people in the past/future do all the work for them.

I think a lot of people are missing something. You are not seeing multiple timelines, you are seeing changes to the same timeline. The guy from the very beginning who was shot, he was what messed up the 1992 thing.

I think folks need to think of this “timeline” idea more like an equation (or sentence) on paper where you erase something. Well when you erase something you still can see what was there before even just lightly.

I personally really liked this episode. While it was a SNW episode, in a way it was an Enterprise episode because we saw more of the temporal cold war.

Other things I liked, several references to Trek novels.

The emotion at the ending.

Oh and yeah I think that watch is coming back to be important.

La'an: All right kid, I'm not going to kill you but I am going to tell you this. Don't try to take over the world. Don't try to rule anyone.

(returns to the 23rd century and looks up computer)

La'an: ****, he didn't listen to me.
