Voyager already contradicted the Eugenics Wars happening in 90's. In 'Future's End' they go back to LA 1996 which is all sunny and full of people rollerblading and not one of the Voyager crew are like 'where's khan and why isn't LA blown up' and Janeway is all 'LA became a coral reef because of the big one in 2047 lol'.
To be fair, "Future's End" didn't contradict what came before. It was an alt timeline caused by the Aeon crashing in the 60s. The Eugenics Wars need not have been worldwide, and there is the shot of the Botany Bay in Rain Robinson's office...

I absolutely loathe the intentional breaking and distorting of continuity for no other reason than they have this bug up their ass about aligning Trek with reality. "WELL GORSH, DEM EUGENICS WARZ AIN'T HAPPEN IN THE 90'S SO WHATTA WE DO?!" Nothing, you idiot writers. Star Trek is not our future. It's a phukking TV show. What took place in the 1990's in real life does not need to match the show. Why do I even have to say this out loud?

Oh and I'm tired of lazy Khan referencing. TWOK is my favorite movie, but gotdamn move tf on. Stop trying to put your spin on it or add your two cents. Do something new. I don't need to know any more about him. I don't need to see him as a kid. I don't need to see an alternate timeline version. If you want to honor the character, leave him alone.

It's canon so its the main timeline. Don't sweat the details.
All timelines are canon Khanon, including the 285k from Parallels :D

And Janeway even speculated that the computer tech boom in the late 20th century only happened because 29th century tech made its way back into Starling's hands... so it was either a self-fulfilling loop (like FC as 7 points out in Relativity), or another timeline yet again :D

Eh, I don't care that they changed it. Let's judge the episodes on its own merits.

I enjoyed this a lot. While it did have that City on the Edge vibe.....and the music in the makeout scene really sounded like a 1960s TV score, full of melodrama. For a reset button episode, I thought it was well done. Christina Chong gave a helluva performance and her call to Jim and her reaction was a gut punch. Let go episode 204.....maye we will all get it on the SAME DAY.

9/10 excellent episode and wesley kirk was really good.
overall a much better time travel episode than the entirety of pic s2 lol

I actually think it is an alternate timeline,
and you would be wrong

More Proof of the 3rd Timeline
that's nonsense lol

It does sort if imply that Discovery and SNW are indeed another timeline from the Prime. Maybe DiscoVerse is actually a thing.
 no it doesn't

Well.... I can see we're going to ignore all the character building for La'an in this week's episode to focus entirely on the "but Discovery is an alternate universe" bullshit, over and over and over again...

This fandom.....

I will say that I found the episode rather delightful. I may be somewhat biased, being an Ontario native, but it was great to see Toronto in Star Trek. It was fun to see them visit locals I've actually visited.

Toronto love aside, I loved what this did for La'an. For her to have to literally face what she has essentially been stigmatized with her whole life, and accept it, was a real character moment for her. And to watch her let it all out at the end of the episode has definitely cemented her as one of my favourite characters.

On Kirk, I thought Paul did a wonderful job evoking the spirit of Kirk, without becoming a silly impression.

On the issue of the timeline. I don't care. There have been so many time travel events over almost 60 years of Star Trek that it's amazing that the universe hasn't collapsed in on itself. Was the eugenics war in the 90's? The 21st century? Does it really matter? Not really. But I'm sure it's going to be all that certain people will talk about.

All in all, a highly enjoyable episode that further endeared the characters to me.

I wonder if 5 strange woman ring him up every night with made up reasons?

Although I though I saw future La'an from last years time travel story was smitten with Pike?

Tachyons are an aphrodisiac?

I thought that was a really good episode, much better than last week. Still don't like this take on Kirk so the only piece that didn't click for me. But it was good, stuff with La'an was good and the stuff with Khan is.... Confusing. He's a kid? Isn't Earth at this point (according to Picard snd SNW itself just a few years away from the breaking point?)

But a good episode. A solid 8.

But the "Kirk Episode" is done (guessing we won't see him again) now my other concern down the road. The LD eoisode which for me is trapezoidal peg in a round hole.

I remember when I assumed ENTERPRISE's Temporal Cold War was going to change the history of Star Trek to allow the updated visuals as well as continuity issues being smoothed over. Instead, the opportunity for discussing retcons and continuity in-universe was wasted because the writers hated the concept and refused to engage with it despite using it repeatedly.

There is still one more appearance of him. The trailer showed him beaming aboard the Discoprise and La’an looking uncomfortable in front of Una.

I was thinking an "8", until the last quarter. That made it a "10" for me.

It was a good timey wimey type episode until La'an was taken to the second "target". The it got even realer.

Just when La'an seemed to be coming out of her shell, this feels like an experience that will put her right back in that shell. Not only encountering her infamous ancestor and having to save him, but then she needs to keep all this a secret from everyone (except Pelia?). (Will Pelia remember the altered timeline/has she always remembered it ala: Guinan?)

We will see Kirk again, beaming onto the Enterprise at some point (per the season trailer) when Una accuses La'an of having some energy for Kirk (or something along those lines).
